Virtual reality might save my long-distance relationship

TwitterFacebook

The most romantic place I’ve ever been was a grassy hill overlooking a campground. It was late evening; lit-up tents and cabins dotted the valley that sprawled before us. In the distance, stood a black mountain range, the bright edges of the northern lights peering out from behind. I was surrounded by the warm night, a waxing gibbous moon, a canopy of stars.

At least, that’s what it felt like. In reality, I was sitting in the corner of a New York City office, wearing an Oculus Rift headset.

This was my first experience with Facebook Spaces, Facebook’s new virtual reality platform, and for long-distance couples, like me and my boyfriend, I think it could change everything.  Read more…

Has texting killed romance?

TwitterFacebook

It’s taken a quarter century, but texting has finally killed romance dead.

Yesterday marked 25 years since the first text message was sent, and in that time it’s changed so much about the way we date. It’s made us more available, more casual, and infinitely more #sextable.

It’s not that romance was perfect before texting came along. It was agonizing in its own way to have to call someone on a — *gasp* — landline. And perhaps even more dramatic was the scene where you parked yourself next to the phone, hesitating even to get up to go the bathroom, lest you miss that all-important call from your crush.  Read more…

Duo who unmatched on Tinder magically reconnect on reddit

TwitterFacebook

The internet certainly is a small place.

Haley, 22, from Houston, Texas posted on reddit about being unmatched by another person on the dating app Tinder, after answering a hypothetical question about a killer snail.

“You and a super intelligent snail both get 1 million dollars, and you both become immortal, however you die if the snail touches you. It always know where you are and slowly crawls toward you. What’s your plan?” the question from her former match Walker reads.

Despite giving a thorough reply, Haley found herself unmatched — meaning the message thread disappears. She saved the screenshots though, and well, it’s a good response.  Read more…
