The best part of ‘Marvel’s Runaways’ is the supernatural teen romances

TwitterFacebook

Marvel’s Runaways Season 2 just premiered on Hulu, and while it’s not exactly prestige television, we can’t resist the love bonding its core characters.

Like the comics, Runaways is about six friends on the run from their supervillain parents…but we’d be fine if the show skipped that part and just let them navigate their superhero hormones in peace.

Chase helps Gert figure out what's going on with her anxiety, as well as her psychic connection with their pet dinosaur. Normal teen stuff!

Runaways is not a brilliant show, but it fits nicely into the television landscape of superhero shows. The dialogue can be clunky, the plotting questionable, but like its older Netflix siblings and CW/DC cousins, that’s not what we’re here for. The show gives us cartoonishly evil villains (both superpowered and not), magical tech, mysterious murder – and also some quality teen romance. Read more…

TwitterFacebook

It’s Villain Week here at Mashable. In honor of the release of Venom, we’re celebrating all our favorite evildoers from film and TV all week long. Spooky, scary!

Dear friends, foes, and investigators into my background check:

I have a confession to make. No, this isn’t about that last Halloween Oreo. (But, yes, I did eat it. And I’m not sorry, Denise.) This is an admission of far greater consequence.

Stricken with guilt and anxiety, I write this letter in an effort to publicly address my long-standing sexual attraction to Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Yes, Hannibal the cannibal: the most terrifying and unabashedly bangable villain to ever grace the big screen. Read more…

Allow Lana Condor to share THE cutest story about her ‘To All The Boys…’ co-star Noah Centineo

TwitterFacebook

“I watched To All the Boys the other night by myself, as one does, and I was loving it,” Lana Condor reveals to me on the phone earlier this week. “I was sitting there by myself and I just was like, giggling cause I think [Lara Jean] is like the cutest person in the world.”

That’s how hard the world has fallen for Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before; the film’s own star can’t resist its charm and forgets, while watching, that these are not real people, that she is not, in fact, Lara Jean Song Covey.

“It’s a really cute movie and it makes me happy,” she adds. “I’m in love with Lara Jean and Peter too! I was like, ‘You go girl! You get him!’” Read more…

‘Jane the Virgin’ creator explains how to write the perfect rom-com moment

Think of it as our love letter to, well, love.

When one hears the phrase “romantic comedy,” chances are likely that the first reference to follow is a movie. Romance has always been the work of film and of literature before it. In TV, it can deployed on a whim as a plot device, a way to force characters together or apart in order to sustain conflict for an uncertain episode run. Read more…

7 things I learned as a British person watching ‘The Bachelor’

TwitterFacebook

We British folk do not like feeling left out.

Alas, not every popular U.S. show makes its way across the pond and onto our screensThe Bachelor is one such show that inexplicably has never graced UK screens. And, yes, we do feel decidedly left out of your Bachelor brackets and viewing parties.

As an Americanophile with lots of American friends, I wanted to be a part of this cool clique with a matter of extreme urgency.

So, it relieved me greatly when my my best friend — an American living in London — urged our Anglo-American friend group to watch this supposed pillar of her culture (her words, not mine). Read more…
