This ‘Elf on the Shelf’ challenge might just make holiday travel bearable

The Elf on the Shelf is taking to the skies. 

In a festive move, the Vancouver airport has created an Elf on the Shelf-inspired photoshop challenge. On Monday, they shared a photo of Lil Wayne atop a plane, with the caption, “You’ve heard of Elf on the Shelf, now get ready for…”

Since then, multiple airports (and airport adjacent companies) have been replying to the tweet with their own heavily doctored photos, using the same simple rhyme scheme. It’s a delightful variation on the Elf on a Shelf rhyming meme that surfaced last year, and the results are a reminder that the internet is actually quite good — sometimes. Read more…

Parents are freaking done with Elf on the Shelf. 

The innocent holiday tradition started out as a cutesy way to keep their kids’ behavior in check ahead of the holidays, but has been criticized for being a capitalist marketing scheme to indoctrinate children into accepting the surveillance state. 

That, and parents are tired of coming up with creative ways to stage the impish — and unsettlingly creepy — stuffed doll. At this point, are you freezing your elf in a block of ice and artfully placing him in front of an Elsa doll for your kids, or for the Instagram clout?  Read more…

Elf on the Shelf witnesses puberty firsthand in hilarious ‘SNL’ sketch

Elf on the Shelf is always keeping its eyes on kids to see if they’re being naughty or nice around Christmas, and unfortunately that doesn’t stop when kids hit puberty.

Scrabby the elf, played by host Jason Momoa, has been watching Marshall for 13 years, and now he wants a new kid to watch over because Marshall has learned something new he can do with his body, a “solo activity,” according to Scrabby. It’s not exactly a naughty or nice activity.

The worst part is, Scrabby can’t physically look away — Elves on Shelves don’t even blink — and Marshall sometimes looks at Scrabby during the act. Read more…
