Here’s how to disable FaceTime on your iPhone, iPad or Mac

TwitterFacebook

A nasty bug which lets you hear and see someone at the end of a FaceTime call — without them answering — has been pretty concerning.

While Apple has said it will be rolling out a fix to the issue later this week, you’ll want to disable the feature for the time being.

This means you’ll need to switch FaceTime off on each Apple device you own. Turning it off on one device (even though you may be logged in to these devices with the same Apple ID) doesn’t automatically do the same for other devices.

Disastrous FaceTime bug lets you spy on person you’re calling

TwitterFacebook

Well this is a serious problem.

A major bug has been discovered in iOS that lets a caller hear and see a person on the other end of a FaceTime call before the call has been answered. That’s right, this massive security screwup means you can take a digital peek into another person’s life — completely without their knowledge.

As 9to5 Mac reports, the bug is simple to exploit. First, you call someone on FaceTime. Next, before they answer, swipe up and add yourself to the call. That’s it. You can hear through the person’s phone, all without them answering the call.

Apple delays group FaceTime for iOS 12 and macOS Mojave until ‘later this fall’

TwitterFacebook

One of the most anticipated iOS 12 and macOS Mojave features, group FaceTime, will not arrive when Apple makes both software releases available this fall.

Apple announced group FaceTime at WWDC and hyped it as a seamless way to video chat with up to 32 people simultaneously.

Right before Apple removed the iOS 12 beta 7 because of bugs, users who downloaded the software update noticed the feature had been removed with only the release notes saying it’d “ship in a future software update later this fall.”

Apple self-driving cars could have AR windshields perfect for FaceTime

TwitterFacebook

Your car could act a lot more like your iPhone in the future — at least according to Apple patent filings for an augmented reality windshield.

Patently Apple found a European patent application for a windshield display that presents map and road conditions in autonomous cars. Apple has been testing self-driving cars, but hasn’t divulged much about the project. We reached out to Apple about the AR display, but haven’t heard back.

So yes, in the future might be able to sit back and relax in your self-driving car while information flashes on the heads-up display. (Don’t get too excited, though. Companies file many patents that never become actual products.) It’s reminiscent of the augmented windows proposed on the ultra-high-speed Hyperloop. Based on where you look and the scenery outside, you’ll see different things on your screen.  Read more…

This mom’s wrong number mixup escalated hilariously

TwitterFacebook

Wrong numbers can often have entertaining results, but this is on a whole other level.

Last weekend, Twitter user @thesheidashow shared screengrabs of a lengthy message exchange she’d shared with a woman she’d never met met before.

“It took a whole 15 minute Facetime call to convince this woman I wasn’t her son Dorian from Canada,” she wrote.

TwitterFacebook

This guy took daddy duties to a whole new level…

Dante was relaxing at home when he received a FaceTime request from his daughter, who was just upstairs. Apparently, her brother left a little surprise on the carpet of their playroom, and she felt the need to tell him about it.

It gets worse.
