Do you still use a Microsoft Band smartwatch? You might have a refund waiting.

TwitterFacebook

If you’re still using the Microsoft Band for all your smartwatch, fitness tracker, and wearable needs, your loyalty might pay off.

Though Microsoft discontinued the Band in 2016, it kept the online app services running so that owners could continue using the devices if they pleased. On Friday, however, the company announced all Band apps and services will end on May 31.

In an interesting move, though, Microsoft is allowing the dedicated people who’ve continued using the Band after it was discontinued to apply for refunds on the hardware.

Garmin’s Index smart scale is $30 off at Walmart, measures way more than weight

TwitterFacebook

You’re putting in work to lose weight and improve your health. You should be able to see all of the progress you’re making, not just the pounds you’re shedding. A smart scale shows your weight while also calculating different body measurements that you can use to track against your fitness goals.

The white model of the Garmin Index Smart Scale is currently $30 off at Walmart, which is cheaper than both Amazon and Garmin’s official site.

The Index scale gives you a deeper look into your bodily health by giving you metrics for body mass index, body fat and water percentage, muscle mass, and bone mass in addition to your weight. The scale is WiFi connected for you to sync your data in the Garmin Connect app, where you will see charts that track your measurements and be able to review your progress in relation to your goals. Fitbit Ace is a fitness tracker for kids

TwitterFacebook

Fitbit is targeting a new kind of customer, one that probably isn’t even old enough to have a gym membership.

The new Fitbit Ace is a fitness tracker meant for children eight and older. Since kids aren’t likely to be setting fitness goals and checking out line graphs of their progress, the real customer is the parent, who may have an interest in using a wearable to better measure their kids’ health.

There are plenty of statistics to give them reason to be concerned. Recent federal data shows the rate of childhood obesity in the U.Swent up from 14 percent to 18.5 percent over the last 20 years. Worldwide, the rate of obesity has tripled since 1975, according to the World Health Organization. Read more…

Hands on with the Fitbit Versa, a smartwatch for everyone

TwitterFacebook

When Fitbit launched its first “real” smartwatch, the Ionic, last fall, its target customer was clear. Between the many sensors, Fitbit Coach software, and (literally) edgy design, you could tell the Ionic was made for athletes — or at least those who consider themselves to be one.

Nothing wrong with that, of course, but what about the casual user? There are plenty of people who want to get in better shape, but aren’t so serious about it. One might even think they’re Fitbit’s primary demographic.

Well, rest easy, Jane and Joe Average — Fitbit has you covered with the Versa, a smartwatch meant for everyone. It’s cheaper, slimmer, and has fewer features: Whereas the Ionic has GPS enhanced with Glonass positional tracking, the Versa has only GPS. The Ionic also features Fitbit Pay for wireless payments, whereas that feature is only available in a premium “special edition” Versa (in the U.S., anyway — for global models, every Versa has Fitbit Pay). Sitting still at a desk for eight hours a day? The worst. There’s got to be a way to keep your legs busy without getting up and taking a walk around the office every ten minutes, right?

Well, if you’re cool with the possibility of annoying the crap out of neighboring coworkers, this under-desk elliptical on Amazon could be your solution to feeling antsy — and could burn some calories while you’re at it.
