What do Ross Geller and Scott Pilgrim have in common?

TwitterFacebook

It’s Villain Week here at Mashable. In honor of the release of Venom, we’re celebrating all our favorite evildoers from film and TV all week long. Spooky, scary!

There are a lot of male protagonists in pop culture that aren’t actually heroes. They think they’re heroes. We’re supposed to think they’re heroes. But they actually suck.

I’m talking about characters like Ross Geller from Friends, Scott Pilgrim from Scott Pilgrim. Guys who think they’ve done nothing wrong and everything right, but in actuality they’ve caused a lot of pain and problems.

Turns out Ross and Rachel from ‘Friends’ were initially never meant to go on a break

TwitterFacebook

Yes, it’s been 14 years since Friends ended. But we’re still obsessed and we know you are too.

And one of the executive producers and directors of the show, Kevin S. Bright, has just revealed a pretty big piece of information about one of the most beloved couples in TV history.

Ross and Rachel, it turns out, were initially never meant to first break, and then break up, when they did. Their high-school-dream-come-true romance was not supposed to go awry.

“When [Ross and Rachel] was planned it wasn’t planned that way, that came a little bit later,” Bright told Metro. “It allowed us to have fun with the show and give people something to root for.” Read more…

‘Friends’ co-creator has an air-tight reason why the reunion is ‘never’ happening

TwitterFacebook

A Friends reunion is “never” happening, says series co-creator David Crane, but that’s because everyone lived happily ever after.

“Never happening. Never.,” Crane said before he could even properly be asked the question at an Emmy panel in Los Angeles. “We did it! It’s done. That’s why you don’t want to see more of it, because it’s all a happy ending.”

Crane did clarify, however, that it wasn’t just a happy ending within the series. Ross and Rachel are still together, he told fellow panelist Rachel Bloom.

“Yes. Come on, they worked really hard, 10 years,” Crane said. Chandler and Monica are still happy as well.  Read more…

Adorable little girl has the most terrifying imaginary friend ever

TwitterFacebook

Kids just say the darndest most soul-crushingly terrifying things, don’t they?

Meet Ruby, 3, who either has an extremely vivid imagination or is being haunted by a pregnant teen ghost. The little girl’s description of her imaginary friend (who, frankly, sounds more like a trapped spirit from another era) was tweeted on Monday by actress Natalie Morales.

Ruby, you have a ghost. This is straight up terrifyingpic.twitter.com/DM0y77CWHI

— Natalie Morales (@nataliemorales) May 28, 2018

Morales was rightfully scared by Ruby’s “imaginary mum, Grateful.” The child details many frightening specifics about her so-called friend: “Her yellow eyelashes mean she can see in the dark — she only comes to see me at night-time. It scares me sometimes, but I always want her to come back. She has two babies in her belly. She’s 14, but can never have a birthday.” Read more…

This ‘Friends’ theory about why Ross and Monica had to be related is sort of mind-blowing

TwitterFacebook

Ross and Monica in Friends has to be one of the most famous on-screen brother-sister relationships out there.

But did you ever stop to question why the show’s writers chose to make them related?

Well, prepare to have your mind blown…

Just realized they HAD to make Monica & Ross brother and sister otherwise all the F•R•I•E•N•D•S would have stuck with Carol in the divorce

— Emily Heller (@MrEmilyHeller) May 12, 2018

That tweet, which was posted by comedian Emily Heller on Saturday, has since been shared 7000 times.

Here’s what the apartments from ‘Friends’ might look like today

TwitterFacebook

The apartments from Friends — especially Monica’s purple habitat — are among the most iconic in television history. This is partially because everyone loves to talk about how expensive they’d be in real life. (The answer? So expensive that I no longer want to think about it!)

But people also love the Friends apartments because, frankly, nostalgia is a powerful beast. No doubt aware of this, the interior design startup Modsy has reimagined Monica’s, Rachel’s, and Joey’s apartments in their hypothetical 2018 forms.

Here’s Joey’s apartment, to which Modsy has assigned an “Atomic Industrial” style. Hey, if you can pull off the Hugsy-on-an-Eames-chair look, more power to you. Read more…

This ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ moment featuring ‘Friends’ is slowly driving me insane

TwitterFacebook

The Handmaid’s Tale is a lot of things – calamitous, empowering, a shout into the void – but the remarkable series made surprise move that left me totally flummoxed.

In episode 202, “Unwomen,” away from the immediate threat of Gilead guards, June is hiding out in an old office building and waiting for her next move. After having lots of great sex with Nick, we catch up with her while she’s relaxing…sipping coffee and watching Friends.

Specifically, she is watching Friends Season 4 episode 1, “The One With Phoebe’s Uterus,” and the infamous scene in which Monica explains female erogenous zones to Chandler and then has an extremely good time telling him which ones to focus on and in what order. Read more…
