Taylor Swift finally takes a stand and donates to March for our Lives

TwitterFacebook

Taylor Swift has always been the Ken Bone of music. In that she’s resistant to taking any kind of political stand, not that she’s been found to be a milkshake duck

On Friday, T Swift shifted majorly out of character and announced that she would be making a donation to March for Our Lives, the student led protest movement advocating for greater gun control.

“No one should have to go to school in fear of gun violence,” Swift wrote on Instagram. “I’ve made a donation to show my support for the students, for the March For Our Lives campaign, for everyone affected by these tragedies, and to support gun reform. I’m so moved by the Parkland High School students, faculty, by all families and friends of victims who have spoken out, trying to prevent this from happening again.” Read more…

Why three university students rallied to organise a London March for Our Lives

TwitterFacebook

Three of the deadliest mass shootings in modern U.S. history have occurred since Stephanie Thompson moved from Denver to London six months ago to study abroad. With an ocean now dividing her from the country she calls home, Thompson says she feels powerless in the face of America’s gun violence epidemic.

That’s why 24-year-old Thompson and two American classmates at London School of Economics — Stephen Paduano and David Scollan—rallied together to organise the UK’s March for Our Lives. On Saturday March 24, Londoners will gather beside the American flag outside the U.S. Embassy in London to show solidarity with students marching on Washington D.C. to demand legislation to stop further shootings.  Read more…

Video game inspired by Parkland teens raises awareness for March For Our Lives

TwitterFacebook

As students, parents, and concerned citizens across the United States prepare to march in protest of gun violence on March 24, they can also take part in a virtual and educational journey towards Washington.

To raise awareness for March For Our Lives — an upcoming march on Washington organized by survivors of the deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Flordia — art director Martins Zelcs and his friends created a video game called Game For Our Lives.

The online game allows players to become one of three avatars inspired by real Stoneman students— Emma, David, or Delaney — and march to Washington to change gun laws. Read more…

Gun vloggers turn to PornHub after YouTube ban

TwitterFacebook

Trust me, you don’t want to search “guns” on PornHub.

But if you do, these days, the search will yield more than just your run-of-the-mill use of guns as a sexual prop.

Following YouTube’s announced ban of several types of gun-related content, as reported by Bloomberg, at least one gun blogger has moved its video operations to the popular pornography site, PornHub.

On Wednesday, YouTube took steps to remove certain kinds of gun-related videos from its platform. Following the Las Vegas massacre in October 2017, YouTube removed bump-stock DIY videos. Now, it’s gone a step further, prohibiting videos that promote the sale of firearms and accessories, along with firearm assembly instructional videos. Read more…

This teen was the only student in his school to participate in the national walkout

TwitterFacebook

On Wednesday, students nationwide left class to honor the 17 teenagers who died in the Parkland shooting, and to protest lax gun control laws in the United States.

But on #NationalWalkoutDay, 16-year-old Justin Blackman realized that he was the only student at Wilson Preparatory Academy in Wilson, North Carolina to participate in the protest.

NRA tweets glamour shot of AR-15 while students hold National School Walkout protesting gun violence

TwitterFacebook

The NRA had a pretty tactless response to the National School Walkout on Wednesday.

March 14 marks one month since the tragic mass shooting in Parkland, Fla. that left 17 people dead, and students nationwide are walking out of classes to honor those who died and protest gun violence.

On a day being used to remember children killed by an AR-15, the National Rifle Association, a pro-gun lobbying group, tweeted a photo of an AR-15 with the caption, “I’ll control my own guns, thank you.”

Snapchat offers special filter to unite kids across the country on National Walkout Day

TwitterFacebook

Students across the country participated in National School Walkout Day on Wednesday to protest gun violence — and a special Snapchat filter has emerged as a big part of their efforts.

One look at a Snap Map of the east coast (just after 10 am ET, when the walkout began) reveals that, naturally, this day of action is being heavily documented on the social platform.

Many of those posting about the protest are using the special filter, which reads “What ____’s schoolday looks like” (with the space being filled by each city or school’s name), and depicts an illustration of protestors and signs.  Read more…
