This ‘Infinity War’ tune was the throwback jam of 2018

TwitterFacebook

2018 was a year that cried out for a simple, effervescent throwback tune we could use to forget our present troubles. No one could have guessed we’d find it in a movie that was all about the successful eradication of 50 percent of humanity

But that’s exactly what happened this May when Avengers: Infinity War topped the movie charts, and sent a 42-year-old track bouncing up the music charts in its wake. With Infinity War newly available on Netflix as of last week, we’re just a-movin’ and a-groovin’ to it all over again.

The track, of course, is “Rubberband Man” by the Detroit Spinners (full name, please, lest you confuse them with a contemporary British folk group). It’s in the movie for less than 30 seconds, but leaves a hell of an impression — partly because its 1970s bass-twanging  intro perfectly announces the Guardians of the Galaxy, but mostly because Chris Pratt so utterly throws himself into TikTok-like lip syncing.  Read more…

One of the best moments in ‘Infinity War’ was completely improvised

TwitterFacebook

Avengers: Infinity War is such a tightly paced movie that it’s hard to think about improvisation slipping through the cracks of Marvel’s master plan.

But the Russo brothers’s director commentary on the Blu-ray edition of Infinity War (h/t Shadow and Act) reveals that one of the movie’s coolest moments came completely unexpected.

The scene occurs at the beginning of the Battle of Wakanda, where the earthbound Avengers, the Wakandan army, and the Jabari tribe join forces to fight Thanos’s army of space dogs (well, that’s what Rocket likes to call them). As the armies prepare to take the fight to Thanos, Winston Duke’s Chief M’Baku begins a familiar war chant — the same heard in the first challenge and later battle against Killmonger in Black PantherRead more…

This guy has apparently watched ‘Infinity War’ 43 times since its release

TwitterFacebook

Sometimes, if you want to go viral, you really have to put the work in.

Well, credit where credit’s due — much like the guy who live-streamed himself saying “gucci gang” a million times, the man below has to receive a fair bit of praise for his sheer level of dedication alone. This time the object of obsession isn’t a Lil Pump song, it’s the latest Marvel blockbuster.

It all started on 28 April, when Infinity War was released in cinemas. As you can tell from the following tweet, YouTuber Nem (the hero of our tale) enjoyed his first viewing quite a bit. Read more…

We need to talk about Thanos’ insane population control scheme in ‘Infinity War’

TwitterFacebook

Spoiler Alert: This article discusses the shocking ending of Infinity War, which you really should have seen by now.

It’s been quite a week for galaxy brain solutions to our greatest problems — big, bold ideas, unfettered by anything as old-fashioned as science, history or logic.

We’re not just talking about Kanye West’s bizarre fact-free “freethinking” rants, in which he suggested that centuries of American slavery were the fault of the enslaved for making a “choice” to not be free. There’s an even bigger galaxy brain in pop culture right now: Thanos, Infinity Stone-wielding villain of the box office record-breaking Avengers: Infinity War. Read more…

‘I don’t feel so good’ meme turns ‘Infinity War’ heartbreak into internet gold

TwitterFacebook

Warning! Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War below. Do not read unless you’ve seen the movie, or if you’re like me and enjoy spoilers without abandon.

Avengers: Infinity War, the most ambitious crossover in cinematic history, left a lot of people in tears due to its catastrophic ending. Ya know, where Thanos decides to wipe out half the world’s population — including some of our superhero friends. They start disintegrating into dust and then, most notably and most tragically, young Spiderman, lying in Tony Stark’s arms, looks up at Iron Man and says, “Mr. Stark, I don’t feel so good…”

Cue the tears. Cue the sobs. Cue the memes. Read more…
