The International Space Station’s crew is having a very merry Christmas

TwitterFacebook

‘Twas Christmas Day and all over the place,
People were celebrating, even in space.
The halls were all decked, the stockings were hung,
And for all that we know, even carols were sung.

Two-forty miles up, above Santa’s sleigh,
Was the International Space Station’s own holiday.
Gifts came on a rocket that was launched up from Earth,
Bringing cosmonauts and astronauts plenty of mirth.

On that zero-g station with their hearts all a-flitter,
Astronaut Vande Hei shared this photo on Twitter.

Watch SpaceX launch its first re-flown capsule and rocket combo live here

SpaceX is taking another shot at a historic launch today, should everything go as planned. It’s targeting a launch window of 10:36 AM EST (7:36 AM PST) this morning for its CRS-13 mission, which is its 13th resupply mission for the International Space Station. The mission will deliver a payload of around 4,800 lbs of supplies and experimentation materials for ISS research. It’ll… Read More

NASA to screen ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ on the International Space Station

rey last jedi Being an astronaut living and working aboard the International Space Station shouldn’t mean that you have to miss out on much-anticipated movie releases like Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In fact, it should probably mean the opposite, which is why it’s great news that NASA will work with Disney to arrange a screening for ISS crew of the new movie, which is arriving in theatres in the U.S. Read More

There’s going to be a ‘Last Jedi’ screening on the international space station

TwitterFacebook

There’s no truer commitment to Star Wars than watching the newest movie while actually in space. Astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) are planning a special screening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi while orbiting the Earth. This is a much more enticing option than the previously screened Gravity.

I received confirmation from Disney and NASA sources that the crew aboard the International Space Station will be screening Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

More details soon.

Making pizza in space is incredibly hard, ya’ll

TwitterFacebook

NASA’s Space Station program manager Kirk Shireman wanted to throw a pizza party for Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli.

In mid-November, he ordered up pizza ingredients on an Orbital ATK capsule and enjoyed the feast with his fellow astronauts. Read more…

Pizza in space clearly means well but looks pretty disgusting

TwitterFacebook

Getting to explore space sounds pretty darn cool, but the experience comes with many sacrifices. Sure, time away from family must be rough, but one of the most heartbreaking losses is having to leave delicious pizza behind on Earth.

Paolo Nespoli‏, an Italian astronaut who’s currently orbiting our planet aboard the International Space Station, missed pizza so much that he boldly brought it up to his boss during a live streamed public event.

The result? Pizza in space.

According to a tweet from Nespoli‏, his boss delivered the ingredients needed to construct some out of this world pizza pies. Fellow Expedition 53 crew member, astronaut Randy Bresnik‏, uploaded a minute-long video of the assembly process. Read more…

That ‘alien’ bacteria on the Space Station? It’s probably not aliens.

TwitterFacebook

By now you should know that it’s (almost) never aliens.

Still, earlier this week, Russian cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov told the Russian state news agency TASS that he had collected bacteria from outside of the International Space Station (ISS) that was from “outer space” — meaning that it’s of alien origin.

When contacted, the Russian space agency Roscosmos did not refute Shkaplerov’s claims. Instead, it shared two previous stories from TASS, one of which stated that the exterior of the Space Station might serve as a “temporary custodian of biomaterial of extraterrestrial origin.” By this rationale, perhaps bits of space rock or dust from a comet containing alien microbes could have smacked against the station — and stayed there.   Read more…

This is what a meteor looks like from space

TwitterFacebook

You can see a lot of amazing things from space.

Astronauts on the International Space Station have spotted auroras dancing above Earth, menacing thunderstorms, destructive hurricanes, and just this month a European astronaut on the Space Station caught sight of a meteor shooting through the Earth’s atmosphere.

European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Paolo Nespoli managed to catch the fireball falling to Earth in a time-lapse video on November 5.

And here a closer look! Make a wish… I already did 😉 // E qui visto da più vicino! Esprimete un desiderio… Io l’ho già fatto 😉 #VITAmission pic.twitter.com/H0q5f8hUG9
