Meryl Streep and Ai-jen Poo urge everyone to join them in fight against ‘power imbalance’

TwitterFacebook

Actor Meryl Streep and activist Ai-jen Poo stood shoulder-to-shoulder in solidarity on the red carpet at the Golden Globes with a message for all.

“We wanna say to everyone that they should join us,” said Poo—director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance—who was one of several activists brought to the awards by female Hollywood stars.

“I think that people are aware now of a power imbalance, and it’s something that leads to abuse,” Streep told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet. “It’s led to abuse in our own industry and it’s led to abuse across the domestic workers’ field of work. It’s in the military, it’s in congress, it’s everywhere.” Read more…

Rose McGowan thinks black-clad Golden Globes protesters should find better ways to speak out

TwitterFacebook

Rose McGowan is not interested in your symbolic protests, Hollywood.

On Saturday, McGowan turned her attention to Meryl Streep and others who reportedly support a rising push for female actors to attend the upcoming Golden Globes awards show clad in all black. The gesture is intended as a protest of the sexual misconduct that’s run rampant through Hollywood for decades.

An incensed McGowan lashed out on Twitter at “actresses, like Meryl Streep,” for planning a silent protest.

“YOUR SILENCE is THE problem,” McGowan wrote. “You’ll accept a fake award breathlessly & affect no real change. I despise your hypocrisy.”  Read more…

Journalists race to expose government lies in the first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Post’

TwitterFacebook

Well, this all feels chillingly familiar.

Steven Spielberg’s The Post centers on a team of journalists working to expose the U.S. government for lying to the American people. But it’s not a story about our current situation – it’s about The Washington Post publishing the Pentagon Papers in the 1970s.

Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks star as publisher Katharine Graham and editor Ben Bradlee, respectively, who put their careers and their freedom on the line in pursuit of the truth.

The all-star cast also includes Bob Odenkirk, Carrie Coon, Sarah Paulson, David Cross, Alison Brie, Bruce Greenwood, Tracy Letts, Jesse Plemons, Michael Stuhlbarg, Matthew Rhys, and Zach Woods. Read more…
