Netflix just delivered a ludicrously savage Golden Globes burn

TwitterFacebook

Call over the Globes bartenders cause we’re gonna need some ice for these burns.

Coming off of an astoundingly successful and record-breaking holiday streaming season, Netflix seems to have felt just a little left out of Sunday night’s Golden Globes festivities—despite a number of its projects being honored during the ceremony.

Posting to their official Twitter account, Netflix delivered the following scorching burn during the show.

‘Saturday Night Live’ takes aim at E! Golden Globes red carpet coverage

TwitterFacebook

The all-black protest at last weekend’s Golden Globes put red carpet commentators in the awkward position of having to balance lighthearted fashion talk with sober conversations about sexual harassment – and not everyone pulled it off.

Of course Saturday Night Live noticed, and of course the sketch comedy series took aim at it in the most recent episode.

Cecily Strong, Kenan Thompson, and host Sam Rockwell play three E! hosts who try, and mostly fail, to rebrand as a more “fashion-positive” red-carpet rundown. As Strong’s Rochelle Koontz giggles nervously, “The times are changing, and we’re trying to keep up!” Read more…

Jennifer Lawrence posts hilarious video explaining to Emma Stone why her face is only half made up

TwitterFacebook

In a hilarious video on her Facebook page, Jennifer Lawrence explains why she didn’t make it to any Golden Globe after parties – and why she got half-ready for them.

Missing the Globes must have been rough for an A-lister like Lawrence, but she was happy to go to a few after parties with BFF Emma Stone. Only Stone called Lawrence and changed the plan, leaving her friend half-made up and waiting to hang.

Lawrence doesn’t post to her official Facebook page often, but the most recent posts above this one are related to Time’s Up and women’s equality, including the exit of E! News anchor Catt Sadler after she found out she was making significantly less than a male colleague. Read more…

Jimmy Kimmel is all about Oprah in 2020

TwitterFacebook

Less than a day after Oprah’s powerful speech at the Golden Globes had everyone calling on her to run for president in 2020, at least one celeb known to get political, Jimmy Kimmel, is on board.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association (TCA) winter press tour, Kimmel said he had no plans to run for office himself and then addressed his pal amazing Oprah’s speech.

Noting the friendly audience Oprah got to play to, Kimmel indicated he’d be all about supporting an Oprah 2020 run — with one caveat. Read more…

Guillermo Del Toro totally shut down the Golden Globes’ attempt to hurry up his speech

TwitterFacebook

When Guillermo Del Toro is making a speech, you had better damn well listen.

During Sunday’s Golden Globes ceremony, del Toro picked up the award for Best Director for his new film The Shape of Water.

Mid-way through his victory speech, though, someone working behind-the-scenes at the Globes decided to turn the music up — a not-so-subtle hint that he should hurry things along a bit.

The thing was, del Toro wasn’t having any of it.

You know you’ve made it when you’re getting applauded by a roomful of celebrities for casually telling an awards show to give you more time for your victory speech. Read more…

Meryl Streep and Ai-jen Poo urge everyone to join them in fight against ‘power imbalance’

TwitterFacebook

Actor Meryl Streep and activist Ai-jen Poo stood shoulder-to-shoulder in solidarity on the red carpet at the Golden Globes with a message for all.

“We wanna say to everyone that they should join us,” said Poo—director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance—who was one of several activists brought to the awards by female Hollywood stars.

“I think that people are aware now of a power imbalance, and it’s something that leads to abuse,” Streep told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet. “It’s led to abuse in our own industry and it’s led to abuse across the domestic workers’ field of work. It’s in the military, it’s in congress, it’s everywhere.” Read more…

Barbra Streisand calls out female directors being overlooked in powerful Time’s Up speech

TwitterFacebook

Barbra Streisand couldn’t quite believe her ears when she was informed backstage that she was the only woman to ever win the Best Director award at the Golden Globes.

“Did I hear right?” she said, puzzled, on-stage when she recounted this anecdote prior to announcing the nominees for Best Motion Picture.

“I was the only woman—did I hear right?— the only woman to get the Best Director award,” Streisand said. “And, you know, that was 1984. That was 34 years ago.”

“Folks, time’s up!” Streisand bellowed.  Read more…

The 6 best moments of the Golden Globes (obviously including Oprah)

TwitterFacebook

It was bound to be a tense Golden Globes night in Hollywood after months charged with allegations of sexual misconduct and gender inequality – and perhaps for the better, Sunday’s awards ceremony steered more toward tame. This was a night about toppling the patriarchy, and the presenters and nominees either stuck to that or sat back and let others do the talking.

In addition to all the excellent Time’s Up talk, below were the other highlights of the evening.

1. Sterling K. Brown’s speech

Brown has given a few stirring awards show acceptance speeches by now, and he delivered a tight, stirring response to yet another This Is Us win.  Read more…

Tom Hanks spent his Golden Globes delivering martinis, deserves an award

The Golden Globes may have proved that Oprah should run for president, but they also revealed that we should elect Tom Hanks as our Bartender in Chief.

Amidst the many celebrities clad in black, Hanks was spotted roaming around with a tray of martinis.
