If you’ve already wept your way through all of Season 2 of Queer Eye, here’s a little bite-sized cry for ya.

The Fab Five dropped a surprise episode set in Australia, in which they visited the real life town of Yass — and were made official Yass Queens.

The mini-episode still includes a makeover from Antoni Porowski, Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Jonathan Van Ness, and Tan France — this time, it’s George, a cattle farmer and former rodeo cowboy nominated by his son.

While Jonathan, Tan, and Karamo work on George, Bobby and Antoni work on the local Yass pub, giving it a much-needed makeover, renovating the bistro and introducing a new signature dish to the menu. Read more…

‘Queer Eye’ Season 2 features the show’s first ever makeover for a trans individual

Spoilers for Queer Eye Season 2 ahead.

Queer Eye Season 2 features the show’s first-ever makeover for a trans person.

It’s the most emotional television you’ll watch for an age. Seriously, don’t watch it at work. Naturally, we had to blubber madly at talk to them about it, so we sat down with the Fab Five — Antoni Porowski, Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Jonathan Van Ness, and Tan France — on their press tour in Sydney to unpack episode 5.

“That episode for me I think is one of the most powerful episodes that will ever be seen on TV,” Queer Eye‘s culture guru Brown told Mashable. “First of all, usually when we see the first trans experience, we usually see it through the lens of a trans woman. We never really see our trans brothers being highlighted and showing their experience.” Read more…

Within months of the Season 1 reboot that stole our hearts, Netflix’s Queer Eye will return for a second season in June.

Based on the early 2000s series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Netflix’s Queer Eye reboot charmed viewers with a modern update (more intersectional, less stereotypical) that feels sorely needed in divisive times.

Queer Eye returns June 15.

‘Queer Eye’ gets renewed for a second season

TwitterFacebook

The Fab Five are coming back, baby.

Queer Eye and five other series have been renewed by Netflix including One Day at a Time for a third season, and Dope, Drug Lords, Nailed It!, and The Toys That Made Us for their second seasons, The Hollywood Reporter reported Monday.

All of the shows outside of One Day at a Time are all relatively new unscripted series, showing Netflix’s commitment to giving reality-style television a fair shot at making it on the streaming platform.

Out of that lineup, Queer Eye probably garnered the most buzz online. It’s a reboot of the mid-2000s broadcast television show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, with a new lineup of queer guys who use their individual expertise to make other guys’ lives better. Instead of focusing on straight guys in New York, though, the new Queer Eye takes place around Atlanta and doesn’t just stick to straight guys. Read more…

Antoni (food and wine), Bobby (home), Jonathan (hair and grooming), Karamo (culture), and Tan (clothes) take people from all walks of life and glow 👏 up 👏 their 👏 whole 👏 damn 👏 existence. 👏

The question is: How do you re-create that experience for yourself?

Much has been said about how Netflix’s Queer Eye is not your typical makeover showWriting for The Ringer, Alison Herman points out “This Fab Five wants to take on its projects’ inner lives as well as their outer presentation; in fact, Queer Eye now sees improvements to the latter as a means to improve the former, rather than as a goal in and of itself.” And as an Out interview with the new Fab 5 explained, “The goal isn’t to give subjects a makeover, but rather, as the gurus call it, a ‘make-better.’ It’s about tapping into the subjects’ insecurities, playing to their strengths, and establishing a genuine, enduring connection with them.” Read more…
