Bill Gates watches ‘Narcos’ when he’s alone

TwitterFacebook

In an AMA on Reddit, Bill Gates answered questions about the most pressing problems in the world, taxes for billionaires, and more. He also revealed his favorite TV shows — and it looks like the Microsoft founder isn’t as cuddly as he seems.

We already knew a bit about his viewing habits: he has gushed about Silicon Valley and how he sees himself in the deeply flawed/gastrointestinal mishap-prone protagonist Richard Hendricks. He also shared some of his favorite TV shows during his 2017 AMA. Read more…

‘This Is Us’ is so close to admitting that Jack is a bad role model

TwitterFacebook

The most telling moment so far of This Is Us’s third season happened not in its recent mid-season finale, but back in Episode 8, when Randall Pearson learns that his wife Beth has a group chat with his stepfather Miguel and his brother-in-law Toby.

“It’s mostly gifs,” Beth explains, “but sometimes we talk about how messed up y’all are.”

Because really, the Pearsons are kind of messed up.

If there was a scale for outsized, long-lasting reactions to dead parents and that scale went from Luke Skywalker to Batman, the entire Pearson family would rank somewhere juuuust below the Dark Knight. And it is…exhausting. It is exhausting to watch this family refuse to budge from their sanctified image of Jack, and their obsession with his ideals is destroying them all.  Read more…

Emotionally extra ‘Life Itself’ trailer is basically movie version of ‘This Is Us’ — with Oscar Isaac

TwitterFacebook

Life! Love! Loss! The trailer for Life Itself once again mines these rich Hollywood subjects through the eyes of one of their biggest fans: writer/director Dan Fogelman, who created This Is Us. You can’t tell much about the story of Life Itself from the trailer apart from that it will be painful and poignant – like life itself!

Starring Olivia Wilde and Oscar Isaac, Amazon Studios’ Life Itself is the story of a couple, the story of a nuclear family, the story of friends and the story of a trauma (signs point to the death of Isaac’s wife and child in a car crash so, uh, help).  Read more…

‘Pose’ makes people cry on ‘This Is Us’ levels and that’s lovely

TwitterFacebook

In the world of entertainment, making people cry is in. One of the highest compliments anyone can give a TV show or movie is “I was sobbing by the end,” a recommendation that speaks to the show’s emotional quality and overall worthiness in the media landscape.

The current king of making people weep their sweet, wanted tears is NBC’s This Is Us, a show that is so famous for hurting feelings that people make sure they have tissues on hand before viewing, but summer TV has its own queen of the cry in FX’s Pose.

Sterling K. Brown stars in ‘This Is U.S.,’ the saddest political show in America

TwitterFacebook

This Is Us, the NBC drama that makes everyone bawl their eyes out, is sad, but it’s nothing compared to This Is U.S. — the gripping and depressing real-life political drama happening in our government daily (also a Saturday Night Live sketch).

Sterling K. Brown stars as Ben Carson who’s navigating D.C. alongside Sarah Hucakbee Sanders (Aidy Bryant), Stormy Daniels (Cecily Strong), Jared Kushner (Pete Davidson), and Kellyanne Conway (Kate McKinnon).

Critics are calling the show, “like This Is Us but without the parts that feel good.”

Be sure to tune in weekly as the show reveals how Sean Spicer, Anthony Scaramucci, and Hope Hicks died. There’s hella crying, so make sure you’ve got tissues — unless you’re Kellyanne. She has nothing left in her. Read more…

Milo Ventimiglia taught me about fire safety and I DID NOT hate it

TwitterFacebook

Jack Pearson’s in the houuuse — the fire house, that is.

This Is Us star Milo Ventimiglia is teaming up with Duracell to deliver an important PSA about changing the batteries in your smoke alarm. Ventimiglia cares, so he wants to make sure if you ever accidentally leave an old crock pot plugged in and it starts a fire in your house you’ll be alerted in a timely manner, unlike his character Jack Pearson. RIP.

The actor stopped by the FDNY’s FireZone learning center in Manhattan to talk fire safety, and naturally I, a dedicated fan of the NBC drama and uh, safety, of course, was eager to see what the man had to teach me. Read more…
