People trying to sell mirrors accidentally take the best selfies

TwitterFacebook

Taking pictures in front of mirrors in this day and age of selfies is nothing new. But is there a way to take a picture of just the mirror?

There’s not really a neat way to take a picture of a mirror without awkwardly capturing your reflection or using an extreme angle. But, as pointed out by @SilviuMajor on Twitter, when the object of your photograph is actually the mirror itself—like in a  sales posting on craigslist—the results can be a bit awkward and a bit hilarious.

The selfie stick is so over: this is how we’re filming ourselves hands-free now

TwitterFacebook

Heads up: All products featured here are selected by Mashable’s commerce team and meet our rigorous standards for awesomeness. If you buy something, Mashable may earn an affiliate commission.

Think of all the times you wanted to snap a full-length photo to capture your #OOTD but couldn’t because no one was around to take it.

Sure, mirror selfies are okay, but most of us don’t always want our phones in the shot.

A few years back, we flocked to selfie sticks to snap photos of ourselves from a distance, but, if you haven’t noticed, the selfie stick trend is all but dead (unless of course, you’re a tourist or something).  Read more…

Women are sharing their side profile selfies to show noses of all sizes are beautiful

TwitterFacebook

A woman is encouraging others to share selfies of their side profiles to embrace their big noses.

Freelance journalist Radhika Sanghani created the #SideProfileSelfie campaign in a bid to celebrate larger noses, which she feels lack representation in the entertainment and fashion industries.

Sanghani told Mashable that she hated her nose for years, but recently she’s begun to alter her “perceptions of beauty” and is growing to “love” her nose.

“It’s been so freeing to not hide from side profile photos anymore and to actually just like my face,” says Sanghani. “So what I really want is for women to share their own #sideprofileselfie and start to celebrate their noses.”  Read more…

Why inclusion in the Google Arts & Culture selfie feature matters

When Google Arts & Culture’s new selfie-matching feature went viral earlier this week, many people of color found that their results were limited or skewed toward subservient and exoticized figures. In other words, it pretty much captured the experience of exploring most American or European art museums as a minority. Read More

Sony’s new phone takes your selfies to the next level with two front cameras

TwitterFacebook

Are you a selfie addict? Pfttt, who are you kidding? We all are. Let’s get something else straight: For real selfie addicts, an iPhone won’t cut it.

Instead, you’ll want a phone that’s more versatile, like Sony’s new Xperia XA 2 Ultra that was just announced at CES 2018. The new Android phone has two front-facing cameras — one regular wide-angle and one ultra-wide angle for those group shots.

Sony’s Android phones are usually a huge snooze-fest (they’ve basically made all the wrong moves over the last few years), but the XA2 Ultra actually has something few phones have. Read more…

Pet cameras from Petcube can take pet selfies, let Fido ‘call’ home

At CES, Petcube is showing off some of its news software technologies for its pet camera system that lets people connect with their pets while away. Here comes the Museum of Selfies to stoke your Instagram-art obsession

TwitterFacebook

Your sister’s friend’s duckface selfie might not compare to the Mona Lisa on first glance (or at all), but a new experiential museum is challenging that notion.

The Museum of Selfies, opening in January in a Los Angeles suburb, purports to raise — if not answer — lofty questions like “is the selfie art?” or “why do we disdain selfies?”

Along with art inspired by selfie culture that’s designed to educate comes photo ops and interactive spaces built for Instagram. As much as this museum is about meditating on the roles selfies play in our lives, it also feeds into a larger trend hitting cities across the world: spaces like the Museum of Ice Cream and Happy Place specially made for social media. Even before we were all taking pictures in sprinkle pools and confetti rooms, we were using Jeff Koons’ balloon dogs to capture our reflections in the perfect pic. This is how we interact with art now.  Read more…

Relax, everyone. These pictures prove royals have taken selfies before.

TwitterFacebook

Everyone knows a life of royalty comes with certain sacrifices, but rest assured, taking selfies is likely not one of them.

*wipes sweat from brow and breathes sigh of relief*

A recent Twitter Moment titled, “Royals can’t take selfies says Meghan as she steps out with Harry” unnecessarily shook people up on a Friday. It focused on a tweet from The Mirror’s royals correspondent, which noted Meghan Markle told a fan she wasn’t “allowed” to take selfies at an event in Nottingham.

Meghan is learning the royal ropes already, telling one couple who asked for a selfie in Nottingham today: “We’re not allowed to do selfies.”
