Corn Twitter comes for Bud Light after their anti-corn syrup Super Bowl ad

TwitterFacebook

Corn twitter is popping off.

It’s not the way you’d expect to start the week, but Bud Light, the patron saint of fraternities nationwide, finds itself embroiled in a bizarre feud with the corn industry. It began when the company aired an ad during the Super Bowl dunking on Miller Light and Coors Lite for brewing with corn syrup.

The National Corn Growers Association was not happy about the dig.

.@BudLight America’s corn farmers are disappointed in you. Our office is right down the road! We would love to discuss with you the many benefits of corn! Thanks @MillerLight and @CoorsLite for supporting our industryhttps://t.co/6fIWtRdeeM

Here’s the Super Bowl halftime show if Maroon 5 had actually played the ‘SpongeBob’ song

TwitterFacebook

Maroon 5 and the NFL made a grievous mistake (one of many!) when they failed to include “Sweet Victory” in the Super Bowl halftime show.

Fortunately, disappointed SpongeBob fans can soothe their devastation with an approximation of what could’ve been. On Monday, Yeek Studios uploaded a re-dub of the very boring Maroon 5 halftime performance. Instead of “Moves Like Jagger” or “Big Tattoo That Says California” or whatever Maroon 5 songs are, the band simply plays “Sweet Victory” instead.

It is much better — even though, sadly, Adam Levine is still shirtless. Read more…

People think Adam Levine’s Super Bowl tank top looks exactly like their home decor

TwitterFacebook

One of the best things about the Super Bowl LIII halftime show was everyone making fun of Maroon 5, but one particular reason proved closer to home than others.

Frontman Adam Levine donned a patterned tank top for the performance on Sunday, and before he took it off mid-performance (a nipple-baring move that didn’t get him in trouble unlike Janet Jackson), some noticed they’d seen this pattern before.

Twitter user Morgan Jordal‏ posted an image of Levine’s singlet side-by-side with some “70s home decor.” It’s pretty spot on. Read more…

This deeply upsetting bowl of queso has given us the only good Super Bowl meme

TwitterFacebook

Guys. They made queso.

Fox News contributor Dana Perino made queso, and the internet is mildly horrified by it.

“I made queso,” she wrote, posting a photo of burnt orange goop bubbling in a crock pot. It’s, uh, certainly a color.

Twitter users couldn’t help but respond with their versions of disgusting looking Super Bowl queso. From the unfortunate Fyre Festival meals to the mummy soup from the recently opened sarcophagus, everyone’s making queso tonight.

The Washington Post’s moving Super Bowl ad uses the power of Tom Hanks’ voice to defend journalism

TwitterFacebook

The Washington Post aired a powerful ad narrated by Tom Hanks during Super Bowl LIII on Sunday, complete with its “Democracy Dies In Darkness” tagline.

The moving spot begins with shots of memorable news events — the March on Selma, the moon landing, the Oklahoma City bombing — but then shifts to paying tribute to journalists who have been captured or killed.

Among those the ad memorializes is Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, whose murder was reportedly ordered by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. Following Khashoggi’s death in October 2018, Trump has so far refused to hold Saudi Arabia accountable for the killing. Read more…

Unsurprisingly, Netflix viewership is way down because of the Super Bowl

TwitterFacebook

Netflix is famously coy about releasing viewership stats.

But in light of the Super Bowl, the streaming service subtly dropped on Twitter that numbers are down because everyone’s watching the big game.

What’s surprising though, is that numbers in the U.S. are only down 32 percent compared to a normal Sunday. And look, maybe it’s because of how dull the big game is this year.

so apparently this Super Bowl thing is kind of a big deal … looks like Netflix viewing in the US is down about 32% compared to a normal Sunday

SpongeBob fans are not happy with that goober of a Super Bowl tribute

TwitterFacebook

The rumored halftime tribute to SpongeBob SquarePants actually happened, but now some people are disappointed by how it turned out.

Maroon 5’s painful Super Bowl halftime show performance was mercifully interrupted by Squidward, who conducted a marching band of Bikini Bottom residents. As the band built up into a crescendo, Travis Scott inexplicably flew into the stadium via meteorite.

Yeah, it makes absolutely no sense.

And after the major online push to play “Sweet Victory” in honor of SpongeBob SquarePants’ late creator Stephen Hillenburg, fans were angry that the tribute barely lasted more than a few seconds. Read more…

The best thing about the halftime show was everyone making fun of Maroon 5

TwitterFacebook

There is no band more consistently, doggedly embarrassing in America than Maroon 5.

Their halftime performance at Super Bowl LIII was no exception. Viewers were subjected to Adam Levine’s exposed, erect nipples and guitar solos fit for a middle school battle of the bands.

Nobody captured this cultural collapse better than Twitter.

I’m sorry, but you just can’t have Adam Levine hopping to a hip-hop beat like he’s at a ska show — then crooning with an *actually* talented gospel choir  — and not expect people to mock it. It’s part of our cultural algorithm. Read more…
