A ‘Simpsons’ producer just noticed a blatant, laughable mistake on the show

TwitterFacebook

It’s not like the producers of The Simpsons are obsessed with continuity – in fact they play it rather fast and loose with the timeline on the show.

But, when executive producer Matt Selman spotted a pretty big continuity blunder on Wednesday, he thought it worth sharing on Twitter.

“Maggie is in photo on wall behind Marge telling Homer she’s pregnant with Maggie,” Selman wrote alongside a screen shot from episode 13 of the sixth season of The Simpsons.

No one asked for this 3D re-imagining of Homer Simpson but here it is

TwitterFacebook

Kiss your nightmare-less nights goodbye.

Artist Miguel Vasquez has created an image which will haunt you forever. It’s a 3D rendering of what he believes Bart Simpson would look like if he were a real human being. I need you to look at each of these images so that I won’t be the only witness to this horror.

I don’t know if it’s the bulging eyes, the forehead veins, or the cartoonish proportions of his head that upsets me the most, or if it’s just the whole thing altogether? Read more…

Why ‘The Simpsons’ creator refused to watch ‘Game of Thrones’ while making his new show

TwitterFacebook

Making a new fantasy TV show in the Game of Thrones era is a dragon-sized task. There’s no escaping comparison to the pop culture behemoth, no matter how different your show may be.

But legendary creator Matt Groening — who successfully parodied the family sitcom at its height with The Simpsons, only to later satirize the oversaturation of sci-fi in Futurama — is seemingly the perfect man for the job.

And it might explain why, in the very first episode of his new Netflix series Disenchantment, he literally impales a prince’s head on a throne of swords. For now, it’s the only direct reference he wants to make to the HBO phenomenon in a show that’s all about twisting fantasy tropes. Read more…

Matt Groening goes back to the drawing board for ‘Disenchantment’

“I tried walking around in a Homer mask, but the latex is hard to breathe in. My head gets so sweaty and my glasses fog up. It’s not worth it for me,” Matt Groening laughs. “But what a way to go, suffocating on a Homer Simpson mask.” The cartoonist bemoans his inability to go incognito […]

‘Simpsons’ creator Matt Groening once again fails to address Apu criticisms

The Simpsons creator Matt Groening has proved once and for all that he really doesn’t want to talk about or learn from the criticism around the series’ most controversial character: Apu.

First look at ‘Simpsons’ creator’s new show has ‘Game of Thrones’ all over it

The upcoming new Netflix series Disenchantment could not have more going for it.
To start, it’s the first new show from Matt Groening, the man who created both The Simpsons and Futurama, in two decades.
For another, it’s basically Futurama …

Why we could be watching ‘The Simpsons’ for another 30 seasons

TwitterFacebook

When The Conners arrives on ABC for its first season sans Roseanne this September, another more enduring working-class American family will return to our screens for its 30th season. And none of its cast members will have aged a day since their first appearance — least of all the baby.

The Simpsons premiered in December 1989, some 14 months after the original Roseanne. Unlike that elder sitcom, it has continued uninterrupted ever since, for 639 episodes. The main cast has stayed the same throughout. The animation has gone digital; the orchestra is still a real live one for every show.

Producer challenges people to write ‘Simpsons’ episode solving Apu problem

TwitterFacebook

The Simpsons has an issue that’s getting harder and harder to ignore.

Last year, a documentary titled The Problem with Apu, examining the stereotypical representation of the show’s recurring character Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, was released.

As well as sparking discussion amongst the show’s fans, the documentary — and the issues it raises — has clearly not gone unnoticed by the people behind The Simpsons.

Last week Hank Azaria, who voices Apu, said he’d be “perfectly willing and happy to step aside, or help transition into something new”, when asked about the character. Creator Matt Groening, meanwhile, drew criticism on Friday with his response, in which he blamed “people who love to pretend they’re offended”. Read more…
