‘Queer Eye’ Season 2 features the show’s first ever makeover for a trans individual

TwitterFacebook

Spoilers for Queer Eye Season 2 ahead.

Queer Eye Season 2 features the show’s first-ever makeover for a trans person.

It’s the most emotional television you’ll watch for an age. Seriously, don’t watch it at work. Naturally, we had to blubber madly at talk to them about it, so we sat down with the Fab Five — Antoni Porowski, Bobby Berk, Karamo Brown, Jonathan Van Ness, and Tan France — on their press tour in Sydney to unpack episode 5.

“That episode for me I think is one of the most powerful episodes that will ever be seen on TV,” Queer Eye‘s culture guru Brown told Mashable. “First of all, usually when we see the first trans experience, we usually see it through the lens of a trans woman. We never really see our trans brothers being highlighted and showing their experience.” Read more…

Awesome gifts for your trans dad this Father’s Day

TwitterFacebook

The season of awkward gifts approacheth.

Whether it’s Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, or some kind of International Marketing Research Firm™️ branded holiday, nothing is more irritating than being forced to buy a gift for someone who insists they don’t want a gift.

Of course they want a gift. We all want shit we don’t need. They, and especially our dads, just don’t know how to ask for what they want.

SEE ALSO: Dad jokes, ranked

Most Father’s Day gift guides are geared to please the Midwestern Cis Heterosexual Bear Dad: a man who likes meat, Android phones, sitting outside the changing room while his wife shops, overpriced gadgets from Brookstone, fishing, and “telling it like it is.” But how many dads exist like that in nature? Maybe like five, tops. Read more…

2018 is gonna be a beautiful year for queer women in film. And yet.

TwitterFacebook

Between Adam Rippon, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and this rim job cartoon Piers Morgan repeatedly tweeted out, 2018 has had a spectacularly gay start.

In keeping with historical tradition, queer women have been noticeably less visible. There have been so few bright spots outside of Cynthia Nixon’s possible earth-shattering gubernatorial run. The situation has become so dire that some of us in the queer women’s community are considering drafting Timothée Chalamet and claiming him as one of our own.

Fear not, queer women and the humans who like them. The community is scheduled to make a subdued splash in 2018, and in one of the places they’re least likely to be found — on screen.  Read more…

‘My government just told me I don’t matter’: Trans students on Betsy DeVos’ school bathroom decision

TwitterFacebook

Grace Dolan-Sandrino, a 17-year-old transgender high school student, was prepared for the Department of Education to let her down.

The federal agency had done so already a year ago, she says, when it rescinded an Obama-era guidance advising schools to allow trans students use of bathroom facilities that matched their gender identity.

Dolan-Sandrino, however, didn’t expect the department to openly abandon students like her by refusing to investigate or take action on complaints filed by children and teens whose schools implement discriminatory bathroom policies. But, as of Monday, that became the agency’s official positionRead more…
