Netflix will adapt the beloved stories of children’s author Roald Dahl, including Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, The Twits, and more. The new versions will be animated series as opposed to previous live-action film adaptations.
“Netflix is known for innovative and high-quality storytelling,” added Gideon Simeloff, Strategy Director for The Roald Dahl Story Company, in a Netflix press release. “There is no other place in the world that can deliver animated entertainment for the whole family at such quality and scale.”

Welcome to No Shame November! This week we’re diving into the pop culture we love that society tells us we shouldn’t.
Dan Brown has made millions upon millions of dollars writing the same Robert Langdon book approximately five times. I can set my watch by their plot beats, see their twists coming a mile away, and pretty much tell you how each one ends before I even crack the book open.
The literary crowd universally pans Brown’s books for their poor sentence structure, cheap thrills, and lack of coherent research. I can’t disagree with them on any of these critiques. Dan Brown’s books are objectively bad…and yet I love them. I love them very, very much. Read more…

Indie bookshops are often great places for book lovers to browse for hidden gems. Some gems, though, remain hidden for a pretty long time before anyone picks them up and gives them a home.
Broadhurst’s Bookshop, an independent bookshop in the English town of Southport, just sold such a gem after having kept it on their shelves for nearly 28 years.
The tweet announcing the sale currently has 134,000 likes.
I have just sold a book that we have had in stock since May 1991. We always knew its day would come.

10 books by women who are changing the world
If you keep up with Oprah’s Book Club — or at the very least, have been online recently — then you know Michelle Obama finally released her memoir, Becoming, on Nov. 13.
In it, the former first lady opens up in ways she never has before, revealing intimate details about marriage counseling, her miscarriage, and the reason why she’ll “never forgive” Donald Trump. Obama will undoubtedly continue these candid conversations in the coming weeks, as she travels across the country for her book tour.
She’s not the only woman trailblazer to share her story. In 2018 alone, we’ve heard from the cofounder of Black Lives Matter, Patrisse Cullors; journalist Asha Bandele; Sarah McBride, the national press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign; and Ibtihaj Muhammad, the first U.S. Olympian to wear a hijab while competing.
