Jeffrey Tambor will reprise his role as George Bluth in Season 5 of Netflix’s Arrested Development. Tambor was fired from Amazon’s Transparent earlier this year after allegations of sexual harassment on set.

A Netflix spokesperson confirmed Tambor’s return to Entertainment Weekly. The latest season of Arrested Development finished filming around when allegations against Tambor first came up.

A few of Tambor’s costars commented on the matter, ranging from David Cross’s “We stand behind Jeffrey” to Jason Bateman’s “I will always love that man” to Alia Shawkat saying, “It’s not about sharing my personal opinion of him. What those victims said needs to be heard just as much.” Read more…

Diablo Cody on ‘Tully’ and the rise of women in Hollywood

TwitterFacebook

It’s rare in Hollywood to find authentic, layered stories about multifaceted women, but the good news is, it’s getting less rare. A notable case on the subject is the filmography of screenwriter Diablo Cody, the scribe behind 2007’s Juno (her first film, for which she won an Oscar), 2011’s Young Adult, and — opening this weekend — the remarkable Tully.

Cody’s work, particularly in collaboration with director Jason Reitman, comprises raw examinations of womanhood in its various stages. In Cody’s own words, Juno is about a girl becoming a womanYoung Adult is about a woman refusing to grow up. And Tully is about a mother of three transitioning not only into parenthood, but middle age. Read more…

New aggregator CherryPicks will highlight female reviewers and women in film

TwitterFacebook

It’s no longer news, and maybe it never was, but the entertainment industry is dominated by men. Gender equality is top of mind in Hollywood now, especially with the Time’s Up initiative and the rising popularity of inclusion riders.

The latest effort to champion women in media comes from filmmaker Miranda Bailey (no relation, Grey’s Anatomy fans) who started CherryPicks, which will aggregate movie reviews the way Rotten Tomatoes does, but without the heavy male bias.

“I think it’s a boys’ club,” Bailey told Mashable on the phone this week, referring to film criticism. “I think journalism itself has been a boys’ club for a long time and the parameters to be a hoity-toity film reviewer or whatever, in certain newspapers – it was hard to get that job unless you were a Caucasian man.” Read more…

Meet the woman behind the ‘inclusion rider’ that Frances McDormand name-dropped

TwitterFacebook

When Frances McDormand told the audience of the 90th Academy Awards that she had two words for them, close to no one would have predicted those words were “inclusion rider.” McDormand immediately got the industry and internet buzzing with this legal term for how people in Hollywood can ensure the inclusion of underrepresented groups while searching for talent in their upcoming projects.

The rider was created in 2016 by attorney Kalpana Kotogal along with Stacy Smith from the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative. Together – with a little bump from McDormand – they may have changed the future of Hollywood. Read more…
