Super Bowl LIII disappointed, but the game still set new streaming records

While Super Bowl LIII may have been a disappointment for some (bored viewers, Rams fans, Saints fans), the big game still set a new streaming record.

Sunday’s game, which saw the New England Patriots defeat the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in the  lowest scoring Super Bowl ever, delivered an average 2.6 million viewers per minute to CBS’s official streaming broadcast. Streaming of the game was up 31 percent compared to last year’s numbers, when NBC’s broadcast of the game saw a then-record breaking average of 2 million viewers.

CBS also boasted in its release on the record breaking numbers that the Super Bowl was watched across 7.5 million unique devices, which is up 20 percent from the 2018 game. More than 560 million total minutes of the game were consumed via streaming, up 19 percent from last year’s game. Read more…

Yes, ‘Survivor’ is still on – and it’s still really damn good

Just about every time I mention my undying appreciation for Survivor, I get some variation on this response: “That show is still on??”

Yes, it’s still on. The 37th season — there are two each year — kicks off on Wednesday, Sept. 26. The theme for the coming season is “David vs. Goliath.” At the start, it’ll be a tribe of 10 underdogs, folks who have had to fight for everything, facing off against 10 proven winners at life.

Those starting tribes tend to matter less as the season goes on, but let’s get all of you doubters and neophytes caught up on what Survivor actually looks like in 2018. Read more…

Julie Chen is leaving ‘The Talk’ following husband Les Moonves’ departure from CBS

Julie Chen is reportedly leaving CBS’ The Talk, just a week after her husband Les Moonves stepped down as head of the company following multiple sexual harassment and assault allegations.

According to CNN, two sources close to Chen said she will be leaving the panel chat show “effective immediately.” 

The panelist, who took time off from the show immediately following the allegations, will make the announcement in a pre-recorded message to air on Tuesday’s episode. 

“She has decided that her main focus needs to be clearing her husband’s name from accusations made 25-30 years ago and tending to her son,” a source told CNN.  Read more…
