Film Academy expels Bill Cosby and Roman Polanski

TwitterFacebook

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has removed both Bill Cosby and Roman Polanski following Cosby’s conviction of sexual assault

“The Board continues to encourage ethical standards that require members to uphold the Academy’s values of respect for human dignity,” an official statement read.

The expulsion comes after the Academy was swift to take action against Harvey Weinstein in 2017 after he was accused of sexual assault and harassment. Woody Allen remains a member despite outstanding allegations, among others.

Cosby was found guilty on three counts of aggravated indecent assault, while Polanski was found guilty of unlawful intercourse with a minor in 1978 (he won Best Director in 2003). Read more…

Aly Raisman says blaming leotards for sexual abuse is victim-shaming

TwitterFacebook

Aly Raisman is tired of victim-shaming over clothing choices.

The U.S. Olympic gymnast tweeted on Sunday that “Leotards r not the problem,” calling out critics of the gymnastics uniform for victim-shaming and “implying survivors should feel it’s their fault.”

Raisman, an outspoken activist for survivors of sexual assault, also called out enablers of abuse against children and young people, saying, “The real problem is the pedophiles out there and the adults who enable them.”

I was recently asked if gymnasts should continue wearing leotards. Leotards r not the problem. The problem is the many pedophiles out there & the adults who enable them. By saying clothing is part of the issue, u are victim shaming/implying survivors should feel it’s their fault.

Men in Hollywood launch campaign to support sexual assault survivors

TwitterFacebook

The #MeToo movement has felt relatively one-sided, as many of the women in Hollywood took initiative and risked everything, whether by telling their stories or helping to launch the Time’s Up campaign. Meanwhile, apart from a few notable exceptions, most of the men in Hollywood stuck to providing hottakes on what the “real” issues are — or wearing a pin

Until now.

In an open letter published by Deadline and signed by producers, writers, activist groups, and actors like David Schwimmer and David Arquette, men in Hollywood launched their own hashtagged campaign: #AskMoreOfHim.

Watch Funny Or Die’s uncomfortable #MeToo PSA starring Evan Rachel Wood

TwitterFacebook

Funny Or Die has released a #MeToo-inspired PSA, that’s intensely uncomfortable.

Starring Westworld‘s Evan Rachel Wood, Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s Kelly Marie Tran, Tony nominee Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and a voice-over from Orphan Black‘s Tatiana Maslany, the video attempts to engage with the #MeToo campaign against systemic sexual abuse in Hollywood.

Using a Guess Who game. Yeah. Featuring game “characters” Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, Terry Richardson, Kevin Spacey, Louis CK, and numerous other men who have been accused of sexual assault, harassment, and misconduct.

It seems flippant but it’s a genuine PSA, directed by an all-female crew and calling for people to join Rise, a national civil rights nonprofit working to implement a Sexual Assault Survivors’ Bill of Rights. Wood testifies with Rise on behalf of sexual assault survivors in Capitol Hill on Feb. 27 — hence the timing of the skit. Read more…

TwitterFacebook

Disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein’s attorney says there was “no criminality” in his client’s behavior, according to a new statement.

Issued Sunday and first published by Deadline, Weinstein’s attorney Ben Brafman responded to the civil rights lawsuit now filed against Weinstein, his brother Bob, and The Weinstein Company by NY Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

According to Reuters, Schneiderman claims the company’s board and executives failed to adequately protect employees from Weinstein, who has been accused of sexual misconduct, including rape, by over 70 women. Weinstein has constantly denied anything non-consensual happened. Read more…
