Instagram thinks you might want to follow hashtags just like you do people
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could follow a hashtag on Instagram?
It would, wouldn’t it? We’re glad you think so, because the Facebook-owned app is reportedly testing a new feature that’ll let you do just that.
Twitter user Pippa Akram first spotted the unannounced Instagram feature and posted it on Twitter, according to The Next Web.
As shown in her screenshot embedded below, when you click on hashtags, there’s an option to follow it to “see top posts and recent stories.”
Ok this is new. What does this do @SimonSocialMM @BizPaul @NatalieTFG any ideas? I’ve followed 2 but can’t find what that means!! pic.twitter.com/LlCBk4Wmfv

What good are 280 characters if you have to shout them from a measly 20-character display name?
Just two days following the surprise announcement that Twitter would be doubling the character count allowed per tweet, the San Francisco-based company is back with another update — and you’d better believe it’s about yet even more characters. That’s right, as of Nov. 9, your display name can be more than twice as long as the old rules allowed.
How long? 50 characters long.
“Starting today, your Twitter display name can be up to 50 characters in length,” the company announced via tweet. “Go ahead, add that middle name or even a few more emojis.” Read more…

Instagram now lets you add any photos or videos to your Stories
Instagram is turning on a feature that many users have asked for, letting users add photos and videos from their camera roll – even if they’re older than 24 hours. The limitation in place previously seemed designed to encourage Stories to be more of a repository for spur of the moment sharing (as well as a more accurate copy of the original Snapchat product), but Instagram seems to… Read More

At its core, the internet as we know it exists in a state of permanent contradiction where everything both simultaneously lasts forever and is constantly in flux.
It’s perhaps fitting then that Twitter, the social media service most identified with brevity, has doubled the upper character limit its users can tweet, while at the same time insisting the fundamental change in no way alters its essence.
But can Twitter thrive in this liminal state of concise and verbose, and what does the change mean for a platform that struggles to add real users at the same time it fails to identify and delete fake ones? Read more…

Twitter’s expansion to 280 characters is rolling out publicly today to all users in supported languages, including English. The company had first announced the controversial plan to move beyond its traditional 140 characters back in September, noting at the time how a longer character count allowed users to express more of their thoughts without running out of room to tweet. Hilariously weird game about a trash hole is basically just Twitter
Let’s all just come out and admit it: We’re garbage people.
Not in the evil sense, of course. But those of us who take part in the virtual, vacuous hole known as the internet can all agree we’re part of the garbage dump.
It’s hard to not become garbage, in some capacity, when you contribute to this all-consuming vortex of content, opinions, pointless arguments, anger, etc.
That’s basically the concept behind Donut County, a hilarious upcoming physics puzzle game by Ben Esposito that delights in the eccentric. Deceptively simple, Donut County is all about the pleasures of destruction — while simultaneously tackling serious subjects like online divisiveness and gentrification. Read more…
