9 memes from 2018 that were just kind of bad

TwitterFacebook

2018 was a year — and some of this year’s memes reflect that.

Although plenty of the memes that came out this year were the perfect platform for top-tier shitposting, a lot of the memes that cropped up were not. Some were distasteful in the least cute way, and some were just mediocre. Some just lacked the staying power of a quality meme.

Here are 9 of 2018’s memes that were … just kind of bad.

1. Logan Paul’s suicide forest memes

Yeah, Logan Paul’s suicide forest debacle was this year. Amidst the controversy over filming the body of a dean man, Paul’s shocked expression in the thumbnail became a crappy meme. Like a terrible precursor to the surprised Pikachu meme, internet users tossed his face onto death-related images. The context of the meme is in bad taste, and honestly, it’s pretty lazy.  Read more…

20 Elf On The Shelf tweets that every exasperated parent can relate to

TwitterFacebook

Parents are freaking done with Elf on the Shelf.

The innocent holiday tradition started out as a cutesy way to keep their kids’ behavior in check ahead of the holidays, but has been criticized for being a capitalist marketing scheme to indoctrinate children into accepting the surveillance state.

That, and parents are tired of coming up with creative ways to stage the impish — and unsettlingly creepy — stuffed doll. At this point, are you freezing your elf in a block of ice and artfully placing him in front of an Elsa doll for your kids, or for the Instagram clout?  Read more…

Someone touched Parliament’s special mace, and British Twitter is losing it

TwitterFacebook

Forget surgery on a grape. After Prime Minister Theresa May postponed the parliamentary vote on her contentious Brexit deal, Labour representative Lloyd Russell-Moyle defiantly marched to the center of the room, picked up the mace — which looks like a large, fancy club — and attempted to leave with it.

Fellow members of Parliament were horrified by the statement. The mace is a “symbol of royal authority” and without it, the House can’t meet or pass laws.

Russell-Moyle was met with an angry uproar as fellow MPs shouted at him to “put it back.” He attempted to leave with the massive gold club, but was stopped at the door and asked to “withdraw from the chamber,” according to the Guardian. Read more…

The internet mocks PETA after it suggests we stop using ‘anti-animal’ idioms

PETA wants people to stop using age-old idioms that it believes are rooted in “speciesism” and “anti-animal language.”
So, that means they want you to stop saying “kill two birds with one stone,” and instead say you’re going to “feed two birds …

The big cow has inspired a lot of hope and joy

TwitterFacebook

Have you heard about the big cow? He is very big —enormous, actually.

Knickers, the seven-year-old Australian cow (technically, a steer), stands over six-feet tall, and weighs a whopping 3,086 pounds, which is about 1.4 tonnes. A giant.

And, if those facts alone don’t convince you of Knickers’ massive stature, just take a gander at this photo of him towering over a heard of cows:

An enormous steer in Western Australia is making headlines. At 194cm ‘Knickers’ is the largest in his category in Australia. Story: https://t.co/ZI472MBUU4 #7News pic.twitter.com/MDEMwEbD8R

People are freaking out over this iPhone curser trick

TwitterFacebook

This quick trick makes texting way easier, and people can’t believe it’s existed this whole time.

Trying to drag the iPhone curser is always a hassle; no matter how precise you try to be, your fat thumbs will always get in the way of typing. It’s almost less effort to delete the text and start from scratch. But as food blogger Krissy Brierre-Davis pointed out, you can avoid the problem entirely by holding down a key and dragging along the keyboard itself.

How come you guys never told me this iPhone trick? I feel dupedpic.twitter.com/2RfRhI4Y1X

A resourceful student turned to Tinder for help studying for her midterm

TwitterFacebook

A student struggling with math turned to Tinder for last minute help.

College sophomore Maddi McMaster has taken calculus twice, and she was at her breaking point right before her midterm.

“My strongest subject is definitely English,” she said over Twitter DM. “I’ve always been terrible at math, so God knows why I chose an engineering degree when I first came to college.”

She had “procrastinated with studying,” and the high school junior who usually helped her out with homework wasn’t on campus that late.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg fractures her ribs and Twitter quickly offers to donate their bones

TwitterFacebook

For her safety and ours, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg should be wrapped in bubble wrap at all times.

The 85-year-old icon fell in her office on Wednesday night, fracturing three of her ribs. Ginsburg was admitted to the hospital for observation on Thursday morning. The injury prevented her from attending an investiture ceremony for newly appointed Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Twitter, meanwhile, isn’t doing so well. Fans of Notorious RBG, as she is sometimes known, immediately launched into grief — and action. Some even went so far as to offer to donate their ribs. Read more…

The girl giving her dad the hand in a viral video tells everyone to chill

TwitterFacebook

A video of a horrified girl giving a middle aged man the hand after he says something to her at a watch party for Dan Crenshaw went viral on Tuesday night.

But the girl from the video wants everyone to chill — it’s just her dad.

In the video posted by @gina_lolz, the man says something to the girl before she turns to him, clearly offended. She throws up a hand before he can finish and struts away.

“Please find this girl I have to know what that guy said to her,” the OP tweeted.

Ellie Delgado, a high schooler from Houston, set the record straight.  Read more…
