Emma Gonzalez has no time for NRA-funded politics. ‘We call BS,’ she screamed.

TwitterFacebook

Remember the name Emma Gonzalez. She surely has many more speeches to come.

In the aftermath of last week’s shooting in Parkland, Florida, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School senior and survivor stepped up during an anti-gun rally to deliver a fiery speech. Like so many others, Gonzalez is fed up. She’s seen firsthand the desperate need for tighter gun controls, and she understands the political machinations that prevent such changes from happening.

It’s a powerful moment. You should watch for yourself.

“They say that tougher gun laws do not decrease gun violence. We call BS!” Florida high school shooting survivor Emma Gonzalez calls on President Trump and lawmakers to tighten gun restrictions in impassioned speech at an anti-gun rally in Fort Lauderdale https://t.co/DgnqrrVs9x

The NSA literally deleted ‘trust’ and ‘honesty’ from its core values

TwitterFacebook

The National Security Agency — which as  whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed, hasn’t been truthful about how much data it collects on phone calls and internet traffic — just removed “honesty” from the core values listed on its website.

“Honesty” has been listed as a priority on the NSA’s website since at least May 3, 2016. But in an updated version on January 12, 2018, first spotted by The Intercept, the word was replaced with replaced with “Commitment to Service.”

An archived version of the NSA’s Mission & Values page says the agency recognizes that both American leaders and citizens have “placed great trust” in it, and that the NSA strives “at all times to be deserving of that trust.”  Read more…

White House government shutdown away message is a political attack on Democrats

TwitterFacebook

Donald Trump’s White House sunk to a new level of petty on Saturday, as the United States government shutdown.

Callers dialing into the publicly available White House comments line — at 202.456.1111 — are greeted with a recorded away message. An unrecognizable female voice politely explains that the government is shut down because Democrats are holding it “hostage.”

Listen for yourself. This is a recording we captured ourselves when dialing the White House comment line shortly after 6:00 p.m. ET on Saturday. Read more…

Chamillionaire offers to help a deported immigrant separated from his family

TwitterFacebook

Rapper Chamillionaire wants to help the family of Jorge Garcia, a 39-year-old man who was separated from his wife and two children by immigration officials.

The story of his deportation from Michigan to Mexico is a heartbreaking example of Donald Trump’s tightened immigration restrictions, which even affect people who came to the U.S. as children, like Garcia.

After years living in the U.S. for 30 years, a 39-year-old immigrant in metro Detroit was deported this morning to Mexico. Escorted by ICE agents, he said bye to wife and 2 kids before boarding. He was brought to US from Mexico when he was 10-yrs-old, too old to qualify for DACA: pic.twitter.com/KFPeweaMbG

TwitterFacebook

President Trump is “not a racist.” At least that’s what he says.

Following a veritable shitstorm of backlash after he referred to places including Haiti, El Salvador, and some African countries as “shithole countries,” Trump has declared that not only did he not say the derogatory comment, but that he isn’t racist. Wait, the “least racist person.”

“I’m not a racist. I am the least racist person you have ever interviewed, that I can tell you,” Trump said on Sunday night. The president was interviewed by reporters before having dinner with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy at Trump International Golf Club in Florida. Read more…
