Watch Ben Affleck (yes, Ben Affleck) predict Spotify and Netflix streaming way back in 2003

Turns out everyone’s favorite ahistorical Bean Town boy and resident Sad Man is more than just a pretty face.
That’s right, Ben Affleck, the star of such films as Gigli and Pearl Harbor, is so much more as this random (apparently) 2003 intervie…

You’ll never guess the most-rented movie of 2017

TwitterFacebook

At the U.S. box office, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was far and away the biggest film of 2017, followed by Beauty and the Beast and Wonder Woman.

At home, though, it was a whole different story.

According to the MPAA (via THR and /Film), the top digital rental of 2017 was The Accountant – you know, the 2016 thriller starring Ben Affleck as an autistic accountant who works for the mob.

The film made just $86 million domestically during its theatrical run. That’s not awful, considering The Accountant has a reported production budget of $44 million, but it’s nothing to write home about, either. It didn’t even crack the top 30 releases of that year.  Read more…

A growing list of the Hollywood stars who’ve committed to inclusion riders

TwitterFacebook

The most buzzed-about moment at this year’s Oscars wasn’t a Jimmy Kimmel bit or a presenter flub. It was Frances McDormand’s acceptance speech.

With two words – “inclusion rider” – McDormand called on her colleagues to take action against the industry’s lack of diversity. The question was no longer what Hollywood’s top talents could do, but what they would do.

The inclusion rider is contract language that a filmmaker or star can use in negotiations to demand that a project meet a certain standard of diversity. In the days since McDormand’s speech, a growing number of top-tier talents have publicly pledged to adopt inclusion riders going forward. Read more…

Former Batman Christian Bale hasn’t seen Ben Affleck’s Batman yet

TwitterFacebook

Between Batman v Superman and Justice League, most of us have had plenty of time to process our feelings about Batfleck.

But one person who’s yet to make up his mind is the previous Batman, Christian Bale – because he hasn’t actually gotten around to seeing those movies yet.

Bale admitted as much on MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast. “Yes, I’m interested [in seeing Ben Affleck’s performance],” he said. “My son seemed like he was really interested, but then I realized he just wanted to see that trailer and that was it. And, you know, I tend to go see films that [my kids] want to see.” Read more…

Stephen Colbert grills Ben Affleck on sexual misconduct allegations

TwitterFacebook

Ben Affleck appeared on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert to promote the film Justice League, where Colbert directly asked Affleck about the aftermath of Harvey Weinstein – and about a few allegations against Affleck himself.

“What I was accused of by a woman was of touching her breast while giving her a hug,” Affleck said, referring to Hilarie Burton’s tweets from October. “I don’t remember it, but I absolutely apologized for it. I certainly don’t think she’s lying or making it up.”

“It’s just the kind of thing we have to, as men, I think, as we become more aware of this, be really, really mindful of our behavior and hold ourselves accountable and say, ‘If I was ever part of the problem, I want to change,” Affleck added. “I want to be part of the solution.’ And to not shy away from these awkward or strange encounters we might have had where we’re sort of navigating and not knowing.” Read more…
