Even Fox News admits the Kavanaugh hearing is a ‘disaster for Republicans’

Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony on Thursday  before the Senate Judiciary Committee was arresting, painful, and often damning — even for the pundits on Fox News.

After Ford began her testimony on Thursday, Fox News host Chris Wallace told a panel that Ford’s testimony and the cross-examination format made this a “disaster for Republicans.”

“This was extremely emotional, extremely raw, and extremely credible,” Wallace said. “This is a disaster for the Republicans.”

His fellow panelists shared similar sentiments, though none with quite the same gravity. Bret Baier said that hearing from Dr. Ford is a “totally different thing” from reading her allegations. Read more…

Dr. Blasey Ford testifies before 17 male senators and almost no women

TwitterFacebook

Dr. Christine Blasey Ford delivered gut-wrenching testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday — and not to the most representative audience, either.

Kavanaugh’s accuser told her story to 17 male Senators and just four female Senators today.  Female prosecutor Rachel Mitchell was also on the panel to assist in the questioning. The eleven Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee are all white men.

All four female senators — Senator Klobuchar of Minnesota, Senators Harris and Feinstein of California, and Senator Hirono of Hawaii — are Democrats.  Read more…

Kavanaugh accuser Deborah Ramirez sends moving message of support to Dr. Ford ahead of hearing

TwitterFacebook

It’s going to be an emotional day for much of the country today, especially for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.

Dr. Ford is testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday morning about her alleged sexual assault by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Prior to the hearing, one of Kavanaugh’s other accusers, Deborah Ramirez, came forward with a powerful message of support for Dr. Ford.

“Thinking of you today, Christine,” Ramirez said through her lawyer, John Clune. “They want us to feel alone and isolated but I’m there wrapping my arms around you and I hope you feel the people of this nation wrapping their arms around all of us.  Holding you up in spirit.” Read more…

Someone left a poignant note for Christine Blasey Ford ahead of the Kavanaugh hearing

TwitterFacebook

An unknown individual left a note for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford Thursday ahead of her testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The note, which was placed on a witness table and written on Senate stationary, reads, “Good luck, Dr. Ford.”

It’s a kind gesture, probably, but it’s also a little foreboding.

Judge Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford are testifying before the Judiciary Committee regarding Ford’s accusation that Kavanaugh — who is up for a spot on the U.S. Supreme Court — sexually assaulted her at a high school party in 1982.  Read more…

5 wildest moments from Trump’s press conference

TwitterFacebook

President Donald Trump gave a rare press conference on Wednesday, and it was … bonkers?

After a day filled with meetings at the United Nations General Assembly, Trump talked to reporters for over an hour, facing questions on everything from trade policy to his embattled Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. His answers were rambling and at times incoherent, and even for those accustom to his unusual rhetorical style, this was a wild ride.

Here are the five standout moments:

1. Taking aim at George Washington

Trump didn’t offer much in the way of concrete answers in response to several questions about the multiple sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh, except to claim it was a “big fat con job” by the Democrats. But he did somehow manage to bring George Washington into the conversation, saying, “Look, if we brought George Washington here, and we said, ‘We have George Washington.’ The Democrats would vote against him, just so you understand. And he may have had a bad past, who knows? He may have had some — I think accusations made? Didn’t he have a couple of things in his past? George Washington would be voted against 100 percent by [Chuck] Schumer and the con artists.” Read more…

After Trump lashes out, sexual assault survivors share #WhyIDidntReport

TwitterFacebook

Following days of *relatively* restrained behavior, President Trump unleashed an attack on Dr. Christine Blasey Ford Friday morning, accusing her of failing to report the alleged assault by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh when they were both teenagers.

Survivors on Twitter bristled at Trump’s tweetstorm. Using the hashtag #WhyIDidntReport, they explained their reasons for choosing not to report their own assaults.

“I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn  date, time, and place!” Trump wrote on Twitter. Read more…
