‘One Day at a Time’ season 3 deftly handles consent and toxic masculinity

Netflix’s modern reboot of One Day at a Time is truly crafty. Just when you think you’ve signed up for a lighthearted family sitcom, it hits you with poignant takes on social issues. 

In its third season, which dropped on February 8, series co-developers Gloria Calderón Kellett and Mike Royce apply this winning formula to consent, toxic masculinity, sexual harassment, female and queer empowerment through the lenses of generation and gender.

With the rise of #MeToo over the last year, several television shows have chimed in to address these themes in their own way, including Younger, Will & Grace, GLOW, and BoJack Horseman. Friday was a big day for Ariana Grande fans.

Not only did the singer post a brand new music video for her song, “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored”, but she also dropped her latest album, “thank u, next”.

Twitter quickly exploded into a frenzy of retweets and reactions.

Hailey Bieber is forced to choose between drinking bird saliva and a question about Fyre Festival

The people who wrote the questions for James Corden’s “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts” segment really don’t mess about.

This week the game — which involves a celebrity choosing between a disgusting food item and an awkward question — featured Hailey Bieber. And the first question was about one promo shoot she’d probably rather forget.

“How much money did you get to appear in the Fyre Festival promo?” asks a giggling James Corden in the clip above, referring to the controversial event that was the subject of two recent documentaries on Netflix and Hulu.

Bieber was ready with her reply, though. “I am not gonna share, but it made for a very generous donation to charity,” she replied. Read more…
