The star of the 2019 Independent Spirit Awards was Glenn Close’s dog, Pip

TwitterFacebook

Glenn Close had a big night at the 34th annual Independent Spirit Awards, but her dog Pip was the evening’s real winner in the internet’s eyes.

Close, who scored a Best Female Lead win for her star performance in The Wife, brought along her dog, a Havanese, as her arm candy for the evening. And given that Pip is a tiny, fluffy pooch who clearly loves his mama, he became an instant star.

Safe to say that Glenn Close’s dog Pippin is star of this blue carpet so far. She told me that she’s going to bring him inside to her table and on stage if she wins#SpiritAwards pic.twitter.com/KB1wOKhzXl

PETA criticized Google’s Steve Irwin art and people are not happy

TwitterFacebook

PETA is facing negative backlash (again), this time for calling out Google and Steve Irwin on Friday.

The Google homepage featured an illustration of Irwin, the late Australian zookeeper and conservationist, holding a crocodile on what would have been his 57th birthday. It was an image that PETA referred to as “dangerous” and “fawning.”

PETA quote tweeted Google about 12 hours after the graphic went up, which still fell squarely on Irwin’s birthday (he died after being stung by a ray in 2006).

#SteveIrwin was killed while harassing a ray; he dangled his baby while feeding a crocodile & wrestled wild animals who were minding their own business. Today’s #GoogleDoodle sends a dangerous, fawning message. Wild animals are entitled to be left alone in their natural habitatshttps://t.co/9JfJiBhGLw

Jussie Smollett has been arrested for filing a false police report, Chicago PD give news conference

TwitterFacebook

Jussie Smollett, the Empire actor who alleged he was the victim of a hate crime in January, turned himself into the police Thursday morning for filing a false police report.

Smollett allegedly orchestrated a false hate crime against himself using two individuals he paid $3,500 to attack him using racial, homophobic, and political language and symbols, Chicago Police Department superintendent Eddie Johnson said in a news briefing Thursday.

According to the police, Smollett orchestrated the attack because he was dissatisfied with his salary.

Jake Gyllenhaal paused his play to help an audience member because he’s literally the best

TwitterFacebook

If for some ridiculous reason you needed further proof that Jake Gyllenhaal is pretty much a perfect human being, then look no further.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show, Gyllenhaal spoke to Fallon about Sea Wall/A Life — the play he’s currently starring in at The Public Theater in New York. And from the sounds of it, even being immersed in a lengthy monologue doesn’t deter him from helping a stranger.

“The other day a woman was coughing, like really, really loudly,” Gyllenhaal says in the clip above. “And I felt so bad for her.”

Rather than ignoring it, Gyllenhaal broke from his monologue to ask the woman if she was okay. And even though she said she was, he went one better. Read more…

‘Doctor Who’ actor Jenna Coleman’s embarrassing moment has the internet cringing

TwitterFacebook

There are some anecdotes that are just so embarrassing, you can’t help but cringe for the people involved.

And cringe we most certainly did when we read Jenna Coleman’s most embarrassing moment in an interview with the Guardian

The Doctor Who actor recounted the time she was buying a sandwich at Leeds train station when a man spoke to her.

“The man said to me: ‘Do you want to go for a drink?’ I said, ‘I am so sorry, I’ve got a boyfriend,'” said Coleman.

Little did she know, however, that the man wasn’t actually asking her out. “And he replied, ‘No, it’s a meal deal: if you take a sandwich, you can get a drink as well,'” Coleman continued.  Read more…

Anthony Hopkins’ latest Twitter video might just bring a tear to your eye

TwitterFacebook

Anyone who’s ever revisited a meaningful place years after they were last there will know how poignant it can be.

The surroundings are familiar, but that often only serves to draw attention to how much time has passed in between.

On Sunday, actor Anthony Hopkins shared a video from a filming location featured in the 1993 movie Shadowlands.

“So this is where we started the film Shadowlands, and 23 years ago I sat here,” says Hopkins. “Ted Hardwicke sat here, he’s dead and gone, I sat over there. Debra Winger came in over there. That was the first day filming. Read more…

This lost ‘SNL’ sketch about Bon Jovi is so dumb it’ll make you chuckle

TwitterFacebook

For some terrible reason, “Jon Bovi” — a Jon Bon Jovi “opposite band” featuring Will Forte and Jason Sudeikis — didn’t end up making the cut on SNL.

But luckily enough, Seth Meyers is here to give them another chance.

The idea is pretty self-explanatory — “Jon Bovi” rattle through a number of Jon’s big hits, but do their best to mangle the lyrics into the exact opposite of those featured in the original.

“Give my foot/ We will not make it I do not swear,” stands out as one of the many highlights. Read more…

Kacey Musgraves asked the internet to meme her and it worked almost too well

TwitterFacebook

Kacey Musgraves may have won Album of the Year at the Grammys on Sunday, but frankly she deserved a different kind of award — an award for the greatest meme of the night.

Obviously that one already has strong competition from Lady Gaga, but Musgraves’ contribution is an undeniably accomplished effort.

It started with her reaction to winning Album of the Year, which you can watch in full here:

Then, on Tuesday night, Musgraves tweeted this.

Let the memes begin: pic.twitter.com/bCSkrXGTXF

TwitterFacebook

Becoming First Lady of the US means a lot of big life changes, but the one thing it apparently doesn’t put an end to are wonderfully awkward messages from your mom.

Nothing stops those. Not even becoming a best selling author, or a super popular surprise guest at the Grammys.

On Wednesday morning, Michelle Obama took to Instagram to share a truly A+ message exchange she’d had with her mom, after appearing at the Awards show on Sunday.

Make sure you swipe on the post below — the second page may be even better than the first…
