Spoilers for Aquaman ahead.

You didn’t think Aquaman would be the last we’d see of Aquaman, did you?

Nope — in typical superhero fashion, his big solo movie has a mid-credits stinger setting up a sequel. Here’s what happens in the Aquaman end credits, and what it means for potential future Aquaman films.

What happens in the Aquaman end credits

Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), whom we last saw getting destroyed in battle against Aquaman, is rescued from the middle of the ocean by Dr. Stephen Shin (Randall Park), whom we last saw spouting wild conspiracy theories about the existence of Atlanteans on live TV. Read more…

No, ‘Captain Marvel’ star Brie Larson isn’t nervous about being Marvel’s first solo female lead

Even by Marvel Cinematic Universe standards, Captain Marvel has a lot riding on her shoulders.
There are all the usual concerns about starting a franchise and translating a fan-favorite character to screen, of course. Then there’s also the fact that …

‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ puts the comic book back into comic book movies

TwitterFacebook

To say that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse feels like a comic book come to life may sound like faint praise, seeing as we’re two decades into a superhero movie boom that the original Spider-Man helped jump start.

But few recent films have embraced the comic book style and sensibility — its visual quirks and anything-goes openness — as wholeheartedly as Spider-Verse has, or enjoyed as fully the potential in combining the two mediums.

Right off the bat, Spider-Verse acknowledges that it’s probably the 700th Spider-Man story you’ve seen in the past few years. A voiceover “yada yadas” the basics of Peter Parker’s origin story, while winking at almost every iteration of it; even the much-maligned Spider-Man 3 gets a rueful shoutout. This movie isn’t afraid of a laugh at its own expense, though the knowing humor is more affectionate than biting. Read more…

What happens in the end credits of ‘Venom’?

TwitterFacebook

Does Venom have an end credits scene? I don’t know, does a turd in the wind roll down a street?

Actually, scratch that. Bad example. Nobody knows what a turd in the wind does because that’s not a thing, Venom. Seriously, where did you get the idea that it was? Was it Eddie? Is that so-called journalist out there giving you fake news about what is or is not a commonly accepted phrase in the English language? I think he’s pranking you, dude. You guys might need to have a talk about that.

Ahem. Anyway, where were we?

Oh, yes – of course Venom has an end-credits scene. Two of them, in fact. Here’s what you need to know about them. Read more…

At Comic-Con, mixed feelings on James Gunn’s firing from ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

TwitterFacebook

As the online debate rages on over Disney’s decision to fire director James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, reactions on the ground at Comic-Con have been no less mixed.

Many of the attendees I spoke with seemed more uncertain than outraged – in either direction.

“I don’t know how to describe it,” said Suzanne Quon, a Mantis cosplayer. However, she continued, she ultimately agreed with Disney’s decision.

Guardians of the Galaxy is typically a family-friendly movie,” she said. “So I think if they’re trying to continue to pitch to that audience, they have to be aware of what their director has been doing.” Read more…

‘Aquaman’ star Jason Momoa admits wearing jeans underwater was a ‘bad choice’

TwitterFacebook

For a guy who’s supposed to be really good at swimming, Aquaman sure has some strange ideas about swimwear.

Like, who the hell wears jeans underwater?

At Comic-Con Saturday, star Jason Momoa acknowledged the pitfalls of wearing pants while swimming.

“It was a bad choice, looking back, to wear denim. They look like leather. They’re not. They’re wet, 20-pound denim. Bad move.”

Momoa recalled one day on set when director James Wan kept telling him to do a certain jump “cooler,” and Momoa had to tell him that there was only so much he could move in soaking-wet denim. Read more…

Aquaman is even more of a bro in his solo movie than he was in ‘Justice League’

TwitterFacebook

Moments after the first Aquaman trailer went online, fans in Comic-Con’s Hall H were treated to an exclusive second look at the superhero adventure.

This one incorporated much of the same footage from the trailer, but added several new scenes that the rest of the world likely won’t see for a while.

So until you get to lay eyes on it for yourself, here’s everything you need to know.

1. Aquaman’s parents’ love story looks kinda beautiful

The extended Comic-Con look opens on a lighthouse, on top of which a woman – Queen Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) – is marveling at the snow. A man (Thomas Curry, played by Temuera Morrison) emerges to wrap a blanket around her shoulders. Read more…
