Here’s the thing about dating app bios: Most of them are incredibly bad. Most dating app bios are too long and too boring, especially for something people might not even be reading.

Facebook Dating wants to be the anti-Tinder
Facebook is likely the last company you think about when you hear the words “dating app.”
But now the social network is beginning the (very slow) rollout of Facebook Dating, its first foray into online dating. The service, which will be part of the m…
I watched HBO’s Tinder-shaming doc ‘Swiped’ so you don’t have to
Have you ever wanted to see one of your “hate-reads” stretched out to feature-film length? If so, you’ll want to watch HBO’s new documentary, “Swiped,” which takes a depressing, trigger-inducing and damning look at online dating culture, and specifically Tinder’s outsized influence in the dating app business. The film evolved from journalist Nancy Jo Sales’ […]

Personal pronouns are important as they play a vital part in acknowledging and respecting people’s right to identify however they choose.
That’s why it’s a huge step in the right direction that dating app OkCupid now allows users to display their pronouns prominently in a dedicated space on their profiles.

Before, users had to write their pronouns in their bio to avoid misgendering, since the profile template had no designated pronoun space. Now, pronouns can appear right at the top along with other basic information. Read more…

Tinder launches Tinder U for the college kids
There’s a new Tinder in town. It’s a feature called Tinder U, made specifically for users of the dating app who are in college. And the company is rolling it out just in time for the start of the new school year.

Tinder’s latest feature, Tinder U, is only for college students
Tinder is today rolling out what may be one of its smartest additions yet with the launch of Tinder U, a feature designed specifically for Tinder users in college. Once enabled, students with a .edu email address will be able to register with their school, then swipe on students who also attend their school or […]

People have a lot of opinions about Tinder’s Super Like function. For some people, receiving one feels like a compliment. For others, a Super Like feels excessive, even creepy — the dating app version of making eye contact for too long.
But there is one thing we can all agree on. It is way too easy to Super Like someone accidentally, and thus way too easy to plunge yourself into an uncomfortable Tinder situation.
As if dating apps needed any more of those.
There are a number of different ways that an accidental Super Like can occur. Users who swipe through people quickly, for example, are more likely to unintentionally swipe up — a Super Like — while trying to swipe right or left. (If they intended to swipe left, then god help them.) If you use the buttons on the bottom of the screen instead of swiping, your chances of messing up are even worse. The Super Like button is right next to the “no” button! Read more…

It’s Viral Market Crash week on Mashable. Join us as we take stock of the viral economy and investigate how the internet morphed from a fun free-for-all to a bleak hellscape we just can’t quit.
I remember the halcyon days of the internet when jokey Tinder profiles elicited a genuine chuckle.
Those days are long gone.
Six years after Tinder first launched, the internet is flooded with people’s thinly veiled attempts to achieve viral fame through their, let’s be honest, mildly-amusing-at-best Tinder profiles.
Back when Tinder was still a relatively newfangled concept, we hopeful, hapless daters were getting to grips with the new app like toddlers trying to walk. Every once in a while, someone’s earnest attempt to make themselves stand out from the crowd on the app would be shared into our feeds or timelines, inviting the mirth of fellow internetters. But, somewhere along the way, something changed. And, not for the better. Read more…

Yes, Facebook Dating is a real thing. And we may have just received a sneak peek.
Jane Manchun Wong — an app researcher who’s spotted Facebook features in the past, like Talent Show — posted photos from what she claims is an internal test of Facebook Dating.

Here’s the only good use for ‘alexa play despacito’ in a Tinder message
Though women named Alexa the world over are likely over the Amazon Alexa jokes, one Tinder user still managed to squeeze one in during a DM conversation.
Reddit user u/weedlewarrior69 shared a conversation with a recent Tinder match named Alexa, in which they decided to take a shot at a classic Amazon joke—a fairly common occurrence these days.
U/weedlewarrior69 asked Alexa how likely it was that she would “unmatch” in response to a joke about Amazon’s AI assistant, to which she replied: “Very likely.” This prompted the response: “this is so sad alexa play despacito”—a reference to one of the best memes of the year thus far. Read more…
