Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Easter “miracle” inspired people to share their stories of near-misses

TwitterFacebook

The Easter bunny was not on hand to prevent catastrophe, but thankfully Lin-Manuel Miranda was.

Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeted a story of an Easter near-miss on Monday.

My dog pulled my sister’s parakeet out of the sky with her teeth
my nephew screamed so loud we were able to intervene before she ate him
Pepito the bird is shook but unharmed
Tobillo narrowly avoids being damned for all time
That was our Easter miracle
how’s by you

Sinister Apple phone prank just won Twitter, Easter, and April Fool’s Day

TwitterFacebook

This year Easter occurred on April 1, turning Easter baskets and bunny suits into the perfect opportunity for parents to prank their kids.

We’ve already covered a few possible pranks for this bizarre crossover holiday, but comedian and apparent dad-joker Joe Heenan executed one of the meanest pranks yet.

Creating the ultimate dad joke/prank, Heenan gave his excited son an Apple iPhone box, which was disappointingly filled with a literal apple.  Read more…

Eggs, ranked

TwitterFacebook

Happy Easter. Time to talk about eggs.

There are, of course, many ways to appreciate the egg — as breakfast staple, as fancy appetizer, as weird chocolate candy. But some egg presentations are better than others. And some (*cough* — hard-boiled eggs — *cough*) are unforgivable.

Here, our ranking:

17. Scrambled (without cheese)

Scrambled eggs without cheese may as well not be scrambled eggs at all.

16. Humpty Dumpty

Creepy, depressing, and maybe not even an egg. Pass.

15. Hard-boiled

Robs the egg of all its joy. The obligatory “protein’ in your salad. Sure, they are okay, but you’d rather have your eggs cooked another way and you know it. Read more…

Find out which Easter candy is the most popular — or polarizing — in your state

TwitterFacebook

Is your state yelling the most about Peeps or Reese’s eggs? Now’s your chance to find out.

A new map from product review website Influenster uses the site’s review data to discover which seasonal Easter candy is the most “buzzed-about” in each state. This doesn’t necessarily equate to the most popular candy in each state, just the one with the most reviews — meaning the states that went Peeps could have done so because people really, really hate them. (If they have souls, that is. Peeps are bad.)

Anyway, here’s the map. If you want to chat about foil-wrapped chocolate bunnies, please head to South Dakota as soon as possible. Read more…

Hot cross bun cones are the Frankenfectionery we’re here for this Easter

TwitterFacebook

While Easter is a religious occasion, for most of us it’s about an avalanche of sugary treats. But while chocolate rabbits and Easter eggs are the traditional go-tos, one innovative team has created a new kind of Frankenfection.

Fusing Easter’s traditional hot cross bun with an ice cream cone, Giapo’s R&D Kitchen in Auckland has created the “Hot Cross Bun Cone.”

Spiced sweet buns topped with a cross to reference the crucifixion of Jesus, hot cross buns are a traditional Easter food to mark the end of Lent — they’re mostly eaten on Good Friday, but some folks eat them all Easter long. While they’re not super prevalent in the U.S., you’ll find many folks eating them in New Zealand, Australia, the UK, Canada and South Africa. Read more…

Cadbury Creme Eggs are good, don’t @ me

TwitterFacebook

There is a certain kind of candy we’ve been taught to hate, even though most of us — the silent majority — desire it deeply in our bones.

Year after year, I’ve witnessed an exhausting parade of Cadbury Creme Egg takedowns, but I’ve been terrified to voice my support for the candy and lose the three bots who follow me on Twitter. I can’t tell anyone I know that I’m in love with the most stigmatized candy in America.

I don’t deserve this. More importantly, Cadbury Creme Eggs don’t deserve this. Fellow egg acolytes, let’s lift the yoke of our self-stigma and embrace our love for this majestic fondant creation. Why should we betray our nature?  Read more…
