The Bollywood song in ‘Deadpool 2’ gave me the purest joy

TwitterFacebook

A small subsection of Deadpool 2 viewers (or a significant chunk, if you’re seeing it in India) got a special Easter egg during the film, in the form of a popular Hindi song that played in Dopinder’s (Karan Soni) cab in the second act.

We know that Dopinder loves to play Bollywood music in his taxi, as evidenced in the first film when he jammed to the oldie “Mera Joota Hai Japani.”

The song in question is “Yun Hi Chala Chalrahi” from the 2004 film Swades, with music by Oscar-winner A.R. Rahman.

Comcast closing in on plan to challenge Disney’s Fox bid

Seems Disney might not be able to waltz into a 21st Century Fox acquisition, after all. Comcast this morning announced plans to launch its own bid from the movie studio, offering a vague outline for a planned bid. In a statement, Comcast says it’s in the “advanced stages of preparing” an offer for the bits […]

Fox canceled ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ to revive Tim Allen’s ‘Last Man Standing’

TwitterFacebook

TV network Fox confirmed Friday that it would be reviving Tim Allen’s comedy Last Man Standing. The news – rumored for weeks – was confirmed a day after the network canceled critically acclaimed comedies The Last Man on Earth, The Mick, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Last Man Standing ended too soon and the outcry from the fans has been deafening,” said Gary Newman and Dana Walden, Chairmen and CEOs, Fox Television Group (the irony may have been lost on them). “We’ve wanted to put the show back together since its final taping a year ago, and Tim never gave up hope either. Thanks to its millions of devoted viewers and the irrepressible Tim Allen, we haven’t seen the last of Last Man Standing.” Read more…

This is bad. This is very, very bad.

‘Simpsons’ show runner responds to controversy on Twitter and…ugh.

TwitterFacebook

The Simpsons‘ show runner Al Jean responded to backlash to Sunday’s episode, in which characters implied that criticism of Apu (Hank Azaria) as a racial stereotype was overblown.

Jean teased the response he expected to Sunday’s episode, entitled “No Good Read Goes Unpunished,” tweeting that evening “New Simpsons in five minutes. Twitter explosion in act three.”

As of Friday, after many takes and exhausting debates and interpretations of Apu, Jean weighed back in on Twitter.

.@TheSimpsons I truly appreciate all responses pro and con. Will continue to try to find an answer that is popular & more important right

‘The Simpsons’ completely missed the mark in addressing Apu criticism

TwitterFacebook

By now, dear reader, you may have surmised that some of us are Mad Online™ about how The Simpsons addressed its largest and longest-running controversy: The character of Apu. Sunday’s episode had Lisa and Marge vaguely alluding to the Apu controversy only to shrug it off and say they might never address it – and that’s just sad.

#TheSimpsons completely toothless response to @harikondabolu #TheProblemWithApu about the racist character Apu:

“Something that started decades ago and was applauded and inoffensive is now politically incorrect… What can you do?” pic.twitter.com/Bj7qE2FXWN

Creator behind new CBS show apologizes for ripping off ‘Bones’

TwitterFacebook

They say imitation is the highest form of flattery — unless you’re talking about straight up ripping off someone else’s show.

Michael Rauch, showrunner behind the new CBS crime procedural, addressed accusations of plagiarizing from the well-loved and recently canceled Fox crime show, Bones. You see, when Episode 3 of Instinct (not to be confused with the 1999 Anthony Hopkins crime thriller of the same name, or the 1992 crime thriller Basic Instinct) premiered, fans expressed indignation at its uncanny similarities to a plot from an episode of Bones in 2009.

Yeah, heard about this. Very distressing and 100% unintentional. Looking into it and how to make sure it doesn’t happen again. And of course apologies to Bones (and their fans). Thanks for the heads up@HartHanson https://t.co/1ZkgOLQfwc

Man Snapchats dramatic chase after pesky fox steals his wallet

TwitterFacebook

This isn’t the first time a fox has stolen a man’s wallet, and it probably won’t be the last.

On Monday evening, Reddit user tootsaysthetrain shared a gif in Reddit’s r/funny sub. The gif showed a sequence of Snapchats, ranging from when the uploader first spotted a fox down an alleyway to the hectic chase that took place after said fox abruptly snatched his wallet.

Behold:

Turns out there’s a reason literature often depicts foxes as crafty and scheming.

On the plus side, the post clearly made a lot of people happy — at the time of writing it’s had almost 50,000 upvotes on Reddit. Read more…
