‘American Horror Story: Apocalypse’ goes full demonic… Hogwarts?

Murder House, Coven, Hotel, Apocalypse… and now, American Horror Story: Hogwarts?

Episode 4 of AHS: Apocalypse explored a number of its own universes—including an unexpected visit to Season 5’s Hotel Cortez—but it also seemed to borrow a lot from J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world. Specifically, 15 minutes of the episode closely mirrored plot points from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Let’s recap! The latest episode cleared up a lot of the confusion from Episode 3 through flashbacks. The first took us to Hawthorne School for warlocks aka AHS’s all-male Hogwarts. There we meet a whole bunch of magical professors who are looking for the boy who lived “the one we’ve been waiting for.” Read more…

What loving Severus Snape taught me about myself

TwitterFacebook

It’s Villain Week here at Mashable. In honor of the release of Venom, we’re celebrating all our favorite evildoers from film and TV all week long. Spooky, scary!

I remember the precise moment I finally understood my dark fascination with Professor Snape — that greasy-haired, hook-nosed, black billowing robe of terror who stalked the halls of Hogwarts.

The Occlumency lessons with Harry backfired for the first time in Order of the Phoenix, and suddenly we were in Snape’s memories. And for the first time, I glimpsed the boy that would grow into the terrifying Potions Master:

It was just a passing image, but my throat clenched, breath caught. Because here was this scene I’d seen play out so many times in my own life. And an experience I never imagined I shared in common with the foreboding, formidable man I thought I knew after four lengthy books. Read more…

We need to talk about that ‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ Nagini reveal

TwitterFacebook

The final trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was teeming with Harry Potter clues and tidbits, but one in particular has fans – how do we put this – losing their shit this morning: The reveal that Nagini, who we know was Voldemort’s final horcrux and erstwhile pet snake, is alive and well in the Beasts era, and she’s actually a human woman (Claudia Kim).

J.K. Rowling confirms a Hermione theory that we suspected all along

TwitterFacebook

If you decide to give your character a name that’s any longer than two syllables, you had better believe that people are going to mispronounce it.

The Harry Potter books are no exception. People managed with Harry and Ron okay, but the second it came to Voldemort and Hermione, the problems started.

Long story short, by book number four, J.K. Rowling decided to do something about it.

Theory: @jk_rowling included that passage on how to pronounce Hermione’s name in Goblet of Fire just to school all of us who were saying HER-MY-OWN like Viktor Krum.

This ‘Harry Potter’-themed classroom has us wanting to be in third grade again

TwitterFacebook

You’ll never actually attend Hogwarts, so this might be the next best option.

Third grade teacher Tressa Bargella has fully transformed her classroom into an homage to the Harry Potter series.

The teacher created an Instagram account to document the making of her Potter-fied classroom. And truth be told I am incredibly jealous of these third graders. The room is filled with references to the outrageously popular books, like the Mirror of Erised, potions, and Quidditch goals posts.
