A ‘diabolical’ failed cheese event has become the UK’s Fyre Festival

TwitterFacebook

Brits are royally cheesed off after a “diabolical” cheeseboard event left hundreds of people bitterly disappointed. This debacle of epic proportions has even been likened to this summer’s Fyre Festival

The £30-a-head ($40) “Giant Cheese Board” event—which purported to be “cheesy heaven” on earth—had so much promisePer a Facebook event, the multi-day event claimed to be an enormous cheese board that could be walked around and feasted upon.

“Carving off slices of your favourite Emmental, Red Leicester, Edam, Brie and every other cheese you can imagine? Surrounded by cheese, rolling around in cheese…eating so much ch…sorry, got carried away,” reads the event description.  Read more…

Crazily expensive, incredibly secure, and visually stunning.

These are the first things that spring to mind when you see a medieval castle.

And those are also the main concepts behind the new U.S. embassy in London, a de facto urban fortress on the River Thames, in the newly-developed Nine Elms district, whose interiors were just revealed for the first time.

The £750 million (more than $1 billion), 12-story glass cube is designed by Philadelphia-based architect James Timberlake who in 2010 said he was inspired by European castlesRead more…

Education technology meets its limits

This week has been a good one for those who like to talk about the limits of technology. Over in the UK, a prankster managed to fool Trip Advisor into naming his shed the #1 ranked restaurant in London. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, a city struggling to manage several wind-fueled wildfires, the L.A.P.D. has asked drivers to refrain from using navigation apps because they’re steering… Read More

‘Town crier’ who announced Prince Harry’s engagement to Meghan Markle is 100% fake

TwitterFacebook

England, with its quirky traditions and old-fashioned customs, is a land of endless fascination for outsiders, nominally for people from the former colony of the U.S.

So it’s understandable why a town crier — with his elaborate, red and gold robed dress and tricorn hat — attracted people’s attention on social media when he was depicted in an ABC News video as he announces the news of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s engagement outside of Buckingham Palace:
