Eminem performs ‘Walk on Water’ live for the first time (sans Beyoncé, sadly)

TwitterFacebook

Eminem’s Revival is off to a great start.

Two days after the rapper dropped the first track from his new album, he showed up at the MTV EMAs to perform it in person.

And even though Beyoncé wasn’t around to lend her vocals this time, Eminem had no trouble commanding the stage with his intense, introspective performance. (Skylar Grey, who co-wrote Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie,” subbed in for Beyoncé’s parts.)

Eminem’s spent the past several weeks teasing the impending release of Revival – his first new album in four years – but as of now, we don’t know exactly when it’ll hit. If the rollout of “Walk on Water” is any indication, though, Eminem still knows exactly how to make a big splash.  Read more…

Taylor Swift’s new album ‘reputation’ confirms she’s mad as hell (and in love)

TwitterFacebook

“New Years Day,” the last song on Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated sixth studio album, reputation, is so good it makes me angry.

It’s soft and lithe and haunting and beautiful and a timely reminder that she is currently unparalleled among her pop star brethren in her ability to hone in on specific details – hand squeezes in the back of a taxi, glitter on the floor after an all-night party — and turn those lyrics into a memory you didn’t realize you had.

If only more of the album reached that high.

As anyone who spends time online is well aware, Swift has rebranded herself, leaning into her darker edges and trying to adjust a public persona that has struggled over the last year or so amid feuds and various bad PR cycles.  Read more…

A new nonprofit aims to put music back into schools

TwitterFacebook

When a child picks up an instrument — whether it’s a guitar, trombone, flute, or cello — they’re receiving a unique brand of education that cannot be taught from a textbook.

However, there more than 3.8 million pre-K through grade 12 students in the United States who have zero access to music education. Whether this stems from a lack of funding or a lack of interest, students across America are missing out on the type of valuable lessons that can be taught only through music education.

A new nonprofit called The GRAMMY Music Education Coalition aims to dramatically lessen this number by covering the expensive costs of musical instruments, recording equipment, and professional development courses for teachers in Philadelphia, New York City, and Nashville.    Read more…

This K-Pop star is a much bigger deal than Melania Trump

TwitterFacebook

Touring around Asia with your megalomaniac husband sure is fun, but if you stand next to a huge K-Pop star, prepare to be ignored.

Melania was just casually hanging out with some teens in South Korea on Tuesday, when suddenly the girls spotted Minho, a member of the South Korean boy-band SHINee.

People found Minho’s casual upstaging pretty amusing.

When Minho got more impact ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ https://t.co/41HWoJCABl

Lin-Manuel Miranda to reprise ‘Hamilton’ role…in Puerto Rico

TwitterFacebook

Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda will reprise his iconic role. In 2019, Miranda will return to the award-winning musical in the title role when it opens in San Juan, Puerto Rico, according to Playbill

Miranda is loud and proud of his Puerto Rican heritage, and of the diverse, color-blind Hamilton cast as it reflects his American upbringing. His last performance as Alexander Hamilton was in July 2016.

“Bringing [Hamilton] to Puerto Rico is a dream that I’ve had since we first opened at The Public Theater in 2015,” Miranda said in a statement through Playbill. “When I last visited the island, a few weeks before Hurricane Maria, I had made a commitment to not only bring the show to Puerto Rico, but also return again to the title role. In the aftermath of Maria we decided to expedite the announcement of the project to send a bold message that Puerto Rico will recover and be back in business, stronger than ever.” Read more…
