Cynthia Nixon loses NY primary and shares a powerful message to young people on Twitter

TwitterFacebook

Governor Andrew Cuomo won the Democratic nomination for a third term as governor of New York, defeating actress and activist Cynthia Nixon.

Nixon had campaigned hard on issues such as legalisation of marijuana and racial and economic justice. In her series of concession remarks posted in a Twitter thread, she chose to use her space to deliver a powerful message to young women and queer people.

“I’m not discouraged. I’m inspired,” Nixon wrote after her defeat.

While the result tonight wasn’t what we had hoped for, I’m not discouraged. I’m inspired. I hope you are too. We have fundamentally changed the political landscape in this state.

Where’s the Pulitzer prize for these reviews of New York City beaches?

TwitterFacebook

More than any other city on Earth, New Yorkers are uniquely adept at complaining — and putting up with shit.

It’s what makes the city great. New Yorkers won’t settle for a mediocre piece of pizza, but they’ll happily sit on urine-coated subway plastic, just so they don’t have to stand. They’ll refuse to eat at a chain restaurant, but they’ll gladly crowd into an un-air conditioned attic “loft” in Bushwick to have their birth charts read.

When it comes to ranking beaches, no one has sicker, more disturbing standards than New Yorkers. Their rude reviews show them for who they are: masters of the form. Read more…

Ride-share companies offered New York $100M to drop proposed regulations

Lyft, Uber and Via yesterday made an offer to succor New York City’s beleaguered taxi medallion owners: a $100M relief fund paid over five years to cover the plight of these poor souls. But the city, in its arrogance, refused this generosity! How could they? Perhaps because it was because the money was contingent on New York dropping its proposed regulations of the ride-sharing industry. In this light it’s hard to perceive it as much more than city officials rejecting a bribe.
