TwitterFacebook

On Labor Day, Nike released a powerful ad featuring Colin Kaepernick, the NFL star still in exile for standing up for his beliefs.

The ad is a simple black and white image of Kaepernick’s face with the message, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.” Kaepernick tweeted the ad from his Twitter account Monday afternoon.

Clear for beer: Biometrics provider now enables alcohol purchases at Seahawks and Mariners games

Clear, the biometrics company you’ve probably seen at airports and at a few other prominent queues, is rolling out the capability to simultaneously verify your ID and pay for an alcoholic drink with your fingerprint. It’s only at Seattle’s CenturyLink and Safeco Fields (and only a handful of concessions stands at those) but if it’s successful you can bet we’ll be seeing more of it.

EA apologizes for ‘unfortunate mistake’ of cutting Colin Kaepernick reference from ‘Madden’

NFL kicker ruins his family kickball game

TwitterFacebook

Ugh. Dads. Always showing off their professional football skills because heaven forbid you let your kids occasionally win a kickball game.

Carolina Panthers kicker Graham Gano (who someone in your fantasy league probably drafts every year) decided that a family kickball game was not the time to go easy on his kids, and the proof is in this video the kicker posted to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon.

Got home today and my fam was playing kickball so I joined in. The only rule is that I’m not allowed to kick it hard. So here is my first at bat…😂 pic.twitter.com/pDeYuiF8yB

Trump cancels visit for the few Philadelphia Eagles who actually wanted to visit the White House

TwitterFacebook

President Donald Trump didn’t want to play with the Philadelphia Eagles, anyway. He canceled the White House visit from the Super Bowl champs — after most of the team said they weren’t going to show up.

The sudden, perplexing cancellation follows a proposed boycott from some members of the team over the president’s insistence that players and coaches stand during the national anthem.

According to The New York Times, White House officials noted that fewer than 10 team members were locked in to attend the event on the South Lawn on Tuesday. So, Trump decided to ditch the whole thing. Read more…

NFL player comes to stranger’s rescue during airport nightmare, goes viral

TwitterFacebook

If there’s one thing the internet can’t get enough of, it’s a good ol’ random act of kindness. And that goes double if the person behind the act happens to be a celebrity.

On Wednesday, journalist Delilah Cassidy shared the following Twitter thread about a problem she incurred when trying to board a flight — and the stranger who came to her rescue.

WOW okay so the most amazing thing just happened to me and I can’t help but share it with the world. American Airlines instituted a new policy where you have to pay to take a carry-on onto the plane. Which is ridiculous but off topic.

The NFL’s new anthem rules are here and, yep, they’re terrible

TwitterFacebook

After a few seasons of pearl-clutching and horror over players expressing their First Amendment right, the NFL has approved new rules for behavior during the playing of the national anthem which solve absolutely nothing.

The new policy basically demands players stand and respect the anthem on the field or face fines from both the league and from the player’s team.

But the NFL, benevolent overlords that they are, have given players an out: players who don’t want to stand for the anthem will be allowed to stay in the locker room, a stupid, horrible decision that solves absolutely nothing.  Read more…

TwitterFacebook

It’s hard to believe it now, but Houston Texans fans once hated on J.J. Watt.

That was all the way back after the 2011 NFL Draft, when the player was selected by the Texans as its 11th overall pick.

The now-beloved NFL star, one of Time‘s 100 most influential people of 2018, hasn’t forgotten the bad times. In a caption-less tweet on Thursday, coinciding with this year’s NFL Draft, he reminded everyone about the hate he received online at the time.

Watt also retweeted a video of fans booing him in 2011, right after he was picked by the Texans in the NFL Draft. Read more…
