Did the White House delete a key question from Trump’s press conference with Putin?

TwitterFacebook

It’s been more than a week since Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin held a joint press conference in Helsinki, Finland, but new areas of concern keep on springing up.

On Tuesday night, for instance, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow called attention to the fact that it appears the official White House video of the event omits one key question from Reuters reporter Jeff Mason, to which Putin gave a controversial response.

During the press conference, Mason asked Putin, “Did you want President Trump to win the election and did you direct any of your officials to help him do that?” Read more…

8 of Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ most batshit moments as press secretary

TwitterFacebook

It’s been quite a week for Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

First, a report surfaced on Wednesday that she would be bidding adieu to the White House at the end of the year — moving on join her predecessors Sean Spicer and Anthony Scaramucci at whatever fancy island hideaway they’ve set themselves up on.

Then, on Thursday, she faced tough criticism from reporter Brian Karem about the administration’s widely condemned policy of separating children from parents who arrive in the U.S. illegally. He asked her point blank, “Don’t you have any empathy for what these people are going through?”

Her very ungraceful avoidance of the question may well turn out to be the defining moment of her tenure as secretary. But it’s certainly not the first time Sanders has stepped in it. Read more…

White House says its federal agencies can’t keep track of their own data

TwitterFacebook

Most federal agencies have no way of effectively detecting when data is stolen, found a new, 22-page report published by the White House Office of Management and Budget last week.

But cybersecurity experts aren’t exactly surprised by the dismal findings. The Federal Cybersecurity Risk Determination Report and Action Plan is an Executive Order-mandated annual assessment of the federal government’s cyber defenses. This year, it concluded that 73 percent of federal agency programs simply can’t detect when large amounts of information leave their networks.

“DHS and agencies acknowledge that more work and collaboration must be done to better protect federal networks,” a Department of Homeland Security official said in a statement sent to Mashable. “Cyber threats to government networks and other critical infrastructure are one of our Nation’s most pressing security challenges.” Read more…

Sean Spicer really wants you to know he was NOT hiding in the bushes

TwitterFacebook

You can take Sean Spicer out of the White House, but you’ll never be able to take him out of the bushes.

It’s been more than a year since Spicer was reportedly seen hiding from reporters in — wait sorry, among — some bushes outside of the White House, but he’s still being asked about his unique method of dealing with media interviews after FBI Director James Comey was fired.

On Thursday, Rolling Stone published an interview with the former press secretary, in which he chatted about his White House regrets, those infamous inauguration crowd brags, and, of course, the whole ~bushes~ debacle.

Trump cancels visit for the few Philadelphia Eagles who actually wanted to visit the White House

TwitterFacebook

President Donald Trump didn’t want to play with the Philadelphia Eagles, anyway. He canceled the White House visit from the Super Bowl champs — after most of the team said they weren’t going to show up.

The sudden, perplexing cancellation follows a proposed boycott from some members of the team over the president’s insistence that players and coaches stand during the national anthem.

According to The New York Times, White House officials noted that fewer than 10 team members were locked in to attend the event on the South Lawn on Tuesday. So, Trump decided to ditch the whole thing. Read more…

Teacher sends back letter from White House, after correcting it

TwitterFacebook

Retired English teacher Yvonne Mason has spent much of her life correcting students’ writing.

But it’s a letter from the White House, signed by President Donald Trump, which has proved a pretty noteworthy correction exercise — and it’s attracted plenty of attention.

“If it had been written in middle school, I’d give it a C or C-plus,” she told The Greenville. “If it had been written in high school, I’d give it a D.”

Mason, who retired last year after a 17-year career in South Carolina, corrected the letter she had received in response to her concerns following the February shooting at Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Read more…

Will the White House sinkhole keep growing?

TwitterFacebook

This week, reporters strolling by the White House lawn noticed a growing depression in the well-manicured grass. The White House called it a sinkhole and after surrounding it with caution tape and cones, covered the small pit with a slab of green plywood.

But while sinkholes — depressions in the ground caused by a collapse or sinking of land — can grow into rather unsettling, gaping holes capable of swallowing houses in some parts of the U.S., it’s extremely unlikely that anything of this sort will happen near the White House.

“The geology just isn’t right,” Dave Weary, a U.S. Geological Survey research scientist, said in an interview. “It’s doubtful this one will get really big — it won’t get 100-feet wide.” Read more…

Another sinkhole is attempting to swallow Donald Trump, but everything’s *fine*

TwitterFacebook

Donald Trump is president, and a sinkhole has formed on the White House lawn.

Listen, I’m not saying the two are related, but this is the second sinkhole to have formed in the vicinity of the Trump family in the last two years.

In fact, a sinkhole appeared outside Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate EXACTLY ONE YEAR AGO TODAY

If that’s not a direct sign from … somewhere … people, I don’t know what is.

On Tuesday, reporters noticed a menacing-looking sinkhole on the White House’s North Lawn and decided to share some photos. Read more…
