Unless you’ve been living under a rock (or you’ve deleted your Facebook profile), you know that Facebook has been in the news a lot recently. And you probably also know that, in the aftermath of that negative press, Mark Zuckerberg and company promised to make your news feed less about shared content and more about social interactions. 

Some prominent advertisers worried that their once lucrative Facebook campaigns were about to go the way of the poke feature, but they didn’t worry for long. Facebook’s ad revenues jumped 62% in Q1 2018, showing that advertisers are still flocking to the social network. It’s clear that as long as Facebook is free to use (which Zuckerberg promises will always be the case), it will be funded by ads. Making Facebook marketers just as in-demand as ever. Read more…

Grimes is here to actually make you feel good about owning a Mac

Apple has a new ad campaign for the Mac. 

Titled “Behind the Mac,” the ads — four in total — show creatives doing wonderful things on their MacBook computers. 

The apps feature legally blind photographer Bruce Hall, app developer and entrepreneur Peter Kariuki and musician Grimes, all of which share a story of how their Mac helps them do their magic. The fourth ad is a combination of the three other ads, with many more Mac users shown using their computers in a variety of scenarios. 

The campaign doesn’t appear to be designed to bolster the sales of any particular model; in fact, many of the computers seen in the ads are old MacBook models, including a white 2009 MacBook — see below.  Read more…

Twitter may be clamping down on cryptocurrency ads

Twitter will soon ban several types of cryptocurrency ads on its platform, Sky News reported Sunday.

The ban, that is slated to go live in two weeks, will be global and it will prohibit ads for initial coin offerings (ICOs) and cryptocurrency wallets. Twitter might also ban ads for cryptocurrency exchanges — with some “limited exceptions,” the report claims. 

If the report is accurate, it would mean Twitter is following in the footsteps of Facebook and Google. Both companies have recently banned all cryptocurrency ads on their respective platforms — though Google’s ban goes into full effect in June this year.  Read more…
