YouTubers from this country are killing it, thanks to the rest of the world

TwitterFacebook

It’s no surprise that having a popular YouTube channel can be lucrative — but just how much has always been a source of curiosity.

The video platform has released a report detailing how much creators earn on the site, with more than 100 Australian channels earning over A$100,000 (US$76,000) in advertising in 2016.

On top of that, 2,000 creators earned between A$1,000 (US$763) and A$100,000 in the same year.

This is revenue earned through advertising that’s displayed alongside their content on the platform, like those pre-roll ads you watch before a video.  Read more…

Lions surround you in this 360-degree enclosure

TwitterFacebook

For those who have the mettle to come face-to-face with a lion, an Australian zoo is opening an enclosure — except the humans are inside.

An experience called Lions 360 is opening at Monarto Zoo in South Australia. It’s a caged enclosure that allows visitors to walk right into the middle of the animals’ ten hectare habitat.

Despite the proximity, the experience is an “absolutely safe encounter,” giving visitors “a prey’s-eye view into the world of these awe-inspiring predators,” according to a description on the Lions 360 website.

Opening from Nov. 18, the experience lasts 60 minutes and costs A$60 (US$45) for adults, with an extra cost to feed the lions as well. The lions are able to climb on top of the enclosure, and can be fed by zoo staff through the cages. Read more…

These Xbox Christmas ornaments are adorable, if you can get your hands on one

TwitterFacebook

Gee, this year has flown by.

With Christmas mere weeks away, there’s a whole suite of holiday products ready to be thrust at you. Fortunately, Microsoft’s Xbox Christmas ornaments are rather quite adorable — although getting your hands on them is a rather strange process.

These mini versions of an Xbox One S controller and console are designed to brighten up your Christmas tree with a bit of gaming-related cheer this season.

Unfortunately for those who already have the latest Xbox, you’ll only be able to get one if you buy a console from the flagship Microsoft Store in New York or Sydney, Australia from Nov. 23. Boo, hiss — unless you needed a new console. In that case, good for you. Read more…

Puppy thieves return dog to little girl, after seemingly feeling bad about the whole thing

TwitterFacebook

An eight-week-old puppy that was stolen from a house in Melbourne, Australia, has been returned to a “devastated” family after local police launched a public appeal.

A number of items including a laptop, an iPad and jewellery were also stolen from the home on Monday.

Yet it was the missing labrador, Sasha, that distressed the family most — especially the daughter of the dog’s owner, four-year-old Maia.

“We’ve only had her a week, but she’s part of the family. She was my daughter’s best friend, and those two spent each night falling asleep together in the dog bed,” Sasha’s owner, Ryan Hood, told Today. Read more…

Man feeds kangaroos toast, still gets attacked by one

TwitterFacebook

Another reminder that despite their somewhat cute appearance, kangaroos are yes, still wild animals.

An 80-year-old man has been injured after being attacked by a kangaroo on Thursday morning at Bendalong, located in New South Wales, Australia.

He suffered multiple cuts to his lower legs in the attack, according to a NSW Ambulance statement.

It was an unfortunate incident for the man, who fed local kangaroos every morning — in this case, one of the kangaroos became aggressive.

The offending kangaroo.

TV reporter doesn’t take any crap from random stranger hurling abuse at her

TwitterFacebook

Why are people so unkind?

Maggie Raworth, a journalist with 9 News in Ballarat, Australia, was confronted by a stranger who stopped his car and walked out to harass her. And it was all caught on camera.

“I make ten times the amount of money you do. Get a real job,” the unnamed man tells Raworth. “Fucking journos. Lowest of the low.”

To her credit, Raworth kept the confrontation civil, asking the man what she had personally done to make him angry. But he wasn’t having it, and continued to abuse her with profanities and comments about her appearance. Read more…

Sia responds to creeper selling her nudes by giving it away

TwitterFacebook

Can’t sell it if everyone has it.

Apparently someone tried their hand at selling nude photos of Sia, so she hit back in the best way possible: By releasing an image of herself on the internet for nix, nada, nothing.

“Save your money, here it is for free. Everyday is Christmas!” she wrote on Tuesday.
