‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is officially a billion-dollar movie

TwitterFacebook

Avengers: Infinity War hit yet another box office milestone this weekend.

On Saturday, the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure crossed the billion-dollar mark at the worldwide box office. It took just 11 days to reach that point, faster than any other film to date.

It’s Marvel’s sixth billion-dollar movie and Disney’s seventeenth — meaning the studio’s releases now officially account for half of the 34 movies to ever hit $1 billion at the box office. The weekend also makes Infinity War ($1.16 billion) the #5 super-hero movie of all time at the global box office, behind four other MCU releases. Read more…

At least one Marvel favorite didn’t die horribly in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

Spoilers ahead, obviously.
A big Avengers: Infinity War no-show survived, as it turns out. It was strange to many that the character never appeared to begin with, but at least now we know for sure that she’s safe.

Twitter can’t stop comparing Thanos to various things that are not Thanos

TwitterFacebook

This is Thanos.

Hello, Thanos.

Hello, Thanos.

Image: marvel studios

You might know him as the latest Marvel baddie with a scheming master plan to eliminate half the world’s population because #reasons. He’s latest evil foe that our plucky band of Avengers have to defeat.

While Thanos is supposed to look like an intimidating, all-powerful villain, some people have pointed out that he looks like… other things. Things that are not intimidating, all-powerful villains.

Things that are the back of a sneaker, for instance.

Mark Ruffalo spoiled ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ last year, but no one believed him

TwitterFacebook

MarkDude. You’re a great Bruce Banner, but you’re terrible at this whole keeping secrets thing.

When Avengers: Infinity War stars Mark Ruffalo and Don Cheadle sat down for a chat with Good Morning America in July 2017, Ruffalo did a dumb thing. He spoiled the end of Infinity War.

What? I’m not going to do the thing and tell you what he said. You’ll have to watch the video to hear the spoilers for yourself. (Honestly, it’s also just funnier that way.)

Uh oh, @DonCheadle, is @MarkRuffalo going to get in trouble with @MarvelStudios now!? #InfinityWar #D23expo pic.twitter.com/WR5C1QCBTb

‘I don’t feel so good’ meme turns ‘Infinity War’ heartbreak into internet gold

TwitterFacebook

Warning! Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War below. Do not read unless you’ve seen the movie, or if you’re like me and enjoy spoilers without abandon.

Avengers: Infinity War, the most ambitious crossover in cinematic history, left a lot of people in tears due to its catastrophic ending. Ya know, where Thanos decides to wipe out half the world’s population — including some of our superhero friends. They start disintegrating into dust and then, most notably and most tragically, young Spiderman, lying in Tony Stark’s arms, looks up at Iron Man and says, “Mr. Stark, I don’t feel so good…”

Cue the tears. Cue the sobs. Cue the memes. Read more…

Look, don’t be mad at Star-Lord for what he did in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

TwitterFacebook

Hey. There are major spoilers ahead, in case the headline didn’t make that clear. You should probably turn back if you haven’t seen Avengers: Infinity War yet.

There’s an Avengers: Infinity War takeaway where the real villain is Star-Lord, not Thanos. I’m here to tell you: That take is wrong.

Star-Lord did some dumb shit on Titan, no question. After the combined efforts of three Avengers, three Guardians of the Galaxy, and Nebula left Thanos ensnared and — at last! — vulnerable, Peter Quill screwed it all up.

Before I tell you why Quill isn’t the bad guy here, let me set the scene. We’re deep into Infinity War now. Doctor Strange, Iron Man, and Spider-Man have linked up with Star-Lord, Mantis, Drax, and Nebula on the surface of Thanos’s home planet, Titan. Read more…

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is a spotlight on the MCU’s biggest weakness

TwitterFacebook

Warning: This post contains MAJOR spoilers for the end of Avengers: Infinity War

Maybe I’m a monster, but the moment I cheered the loudest during Avengers: Infinity War was when all the superheroes disintegrated and the bad guy got his happy ending.

I’m certainly not a fan of genocide (to put it mildly), or even a Thanos groupie. But I do like compelling stories, and a villain-centric arc that refused to let the heroes win was the first time a Marvel movie has surprised me.

So what’s the problem? Well, the ending leaves me itching for a Thanos prequel instead of the next Avengers or even Captain Marvel — which will undoubtedly undo this unhappy ending. And the knowledge that we’ll probably never get that prequel is why the Marvel Cinematic Universe is starting to lose me. Read more…

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ really let down the Children of Thanos

TwitterFacebook

Spoiler alert for Avengers: Infinity War

Cry all you want at the death-filled finale of Avengers: Infinity War. In truth, the movie’s most upsetting move was its treatment of the Children of Thanos.

Let’s put aside the comic book source that inspired the Mad Titan’s quartet of cronies for a moment. The beings we meet in the movie are cool characters unto themselves.

Cull Obsidian, the big, Hulk-like alien with his hammer-whip-thing. Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight, sci-fi staff-wielding acrobats that exude skill and menace in equal measures. Ebony Maw — creepy AF, hyper-intelligent, clearly the most sadistic member of the group. Read more…

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ stars wonder where Ant-Man and The Wasp were

TwitterFacebook

We were all hyper-aware of Hawkeye’s absence from all the Avengers: Infinity War advertisements and trailers, but what about Ant-Man and The Wasp?

Well they weren’t there either — apparently they weren’t invited to the titular war. Possibly because they were forgotten about, as none of the stars of Infinity could remember whether or not Ant-Man and The Wasp were actually in the movie’s trailer.

At least the duo has a new movie coming up soon (and a trailer of their own coming on Tuesday). Read more…

This hidden ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Easter egg in ‘God of War’ is awesome

TwitterFacebook

The Avengers: Infinity War Easter eggs just keep coming, and this one is by far the best. Because it lets you actually wield Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet and — spoiler alert — it’s rad as hell.

The twist here though is that we have Sony Santa Monica to thank for it, not Marvel.

The semi-rebooted God of War on PS4 finds a gaming icon, Kratos, very far from home. While the original trilogy from 2005 set him in the Greek pantheon, he’s now caught up in battles with the Norse gods.

The comparisons to Marvel were inevitable, since the popular comics and movies seared their version of Norse gods like Thor and Loki into our collective contemporary consciousness. Also God of War also released on April 20, only a week before Avengers: Infinity War. Read more…
