Anthony Bourdain’s first time at Waffle House is a spiritual, unpretentious must-watch

TwitterFacebook

In 2015, Anthony Bourdain went to Waffle House for the first time.

Like many people who go to Waffle House, he and chef Sean Brock paid a late-night visit, slipping under the yellow awning into a world Bourdain aptly described as “marvelous — an irony-free zone where everything is beautiful and nothing hurts.”

In the Parts Unknown clip, which people shared fondly on Twitter Friday in the wake of Bourdain’s death, the two watch the southern chain’s classics being cooked — fried eggs, waffles, hash browns held together with gleaming cheese and studded with chunks of ham. (You might recognize the music from Chef’s Table.)  Read more…

Kellyanne Conway calls Trump the ‘commander of cheese’

TwitterFacebook

Alternative facts queen Kellyanne Conway appeared on CNN’s New Day on Wednesday to discuss Tuesday’s Eagles-free celebration of the Philadelphia Eagles. She said a bunch of stuff, as she often does, but one phrase will be embedded in my brain forever.

Kellyanne Conway referred to Trump as the “commander of cheese.”

No, not the commander in cheese — that would be an understandable mistake, because the phrase she was going for was obviously “commander in chief.” The commander of cheese. As if she was already familiar with the phrase and this was just a little slip.  Read more…

7 wild moments from Playboy playmate’s CNN interview about alleged Trump affair

TwitterFacebook

Today in the world is a dumpster fire, CNN aired a revealing interview with ex-Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal, who alleges she had an intimate relationship with President Trump over 10 years ago.

Trump has denied the affair, which McDougal says occurred shortly after Melania gave birth to Barron Trump.

Here are a few breakout moments from the lengthy interview with Anderson Cooper:

Donald Trump offered to pay McDougal for sex

“Well, after we had been intimate, he — he tried to pay me,” McDougal told Cooper. “And I actually didn’t know how to take that.”

“Did he actually try to hand you money?” Cooper asked. Read more…

What would parents do to their kids if they ridiculed a senator? Give them ice cream, apparently

TwitterFacebook

Wednesday’s CNN town hall on gun violence was always going to be a heated affair.

But the forum also presented numerous opportunities for the students, teachers and parents of Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, to confront decision makers about inaction on guns.

Namely Republican Senator Marco Rubio, who was asked by shooting survivor Cameron Kasky if he would reject contributions from the National Rifle Association, in a nod to the lobby group’s political influence.

Cameron Kasky, who survived the school shooting: “Sen. Rubio, can you tell me right now that you will not accept a single donation from the NRA?”
Rubio: “People buy into my agenda, and I do support the Second Amendment” #StudentsStandUp https://t.co/ucmVB74g1C
