Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh praise new Hollywood in brutally nice Golden Globes monologue

TwitterFacebook

The 2019 Golden Globes kicked off Sunday night with our dream hosts, Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg.

Oh and Samberg joked that they were hosting because they’re the only people in Hollywood who haven’t said something offensive. They then proceeded to trash the “race” of the Hollywood Half-Marathon.

Instead of roasting the night’s nominees (“Gervais-style”), Oh and Samberg dished out glowing compliments in derisive tones (“Michael B. Jordan?” “More like Michael B. Buff A.F. You a snack, Michael!”).

Oh and Samberg all but stole the show at the 2018 Emmys, where they presented together and miraculously met for the first time. Their natural chemistry and almost-immediate Twitter reactions begging them to host something contributed to NBC snapping the two up for the Globes. Read more…

Netflix tops other streamers with most Golden Globes nods, but Amazon beats it on TV

Netflix is having another good year when it comes to racking up the Golden Globe nominations. Last year, Netflix topped the list of the most-nominated networks alongside HBO with 12 nods, even if that didn’t translate to many wins for the streaming service. This time around, Netflix has scored eight nominations for its TV series and another […]

The new season of ‘The Sinner’ is your next crime thriller obsession

TwitterFacebook

In a word rife with true and fictionalized crime thrillers, our culture seems almost exclusively interested in the guilty: Who did it? How do we prove it? And what kind of monsters hide among us?

But USA Network’s The Sinner is one of the few crime series more interested in innocence than in guilt. It’s exactly what makes it feel so compelling and fresh in an oversaturated genre.

The two seasons — the second of which premieres on Aug. 1, and the first of which is available now on Netflix – tell two completely different stories of atypical murderers. Both suspects confess to the crimes immediately. But that’s only the beginning, as we wade into the murky moral gray areas that the criminal justice system fails to account for.  Read more…
