Why modern life needs modern banking

From eschewing bar soap to saying no to mayo, Millennials just want to do things differently—and that’s true in many ways, including reimagining how our society views common life decisions.

Mostly, that means giving today’s rising generations more time before diving into major personal and financial changes. Compared to Boomers and Gen X, Millennials are marrying later, buying homes later, having children later—and that’s if they’re doing these things at all

Why the delay? For many Millennials, it comes down to their finances. They want to feel a stronger sense of personal financial stability before undertaking a transformative endeavor like marriage or starting a business. This makes sense for a generation raised in the shadow of the 2008 recession, who treat banks differently than previous generations. A recent Gallup report shows only 66% of Millennials have visited a physical bank in the past six months, compared to 81% of Boomers. Where, then, are they banking? Read more…

Best anniversary gifts for her: More than just diamonds (but also diamonds)

TwitterFacebook

Your anniversary: The one date other than her birthday that you are absolutely required to remember, and the date that will absolutely put you in the doghouse if you forget. While showing your love and appreciation year round is the most important, tangible gifts are just nice — and anniversary gifts can be crucial to keeping the mystery and romance alive.

The hard part: Being in a long term relationship means a lot of gifts over the years, and finding ways to keep gifts unique might start feeling difficult.

The easy part: Well, it’s pretty much a given that the longer you’ve been together, the nicer the presents get. Plus, anniversaries come with loose guidelines to at least give you a push in the right direction. There will be a traditional theme and a modernized theme for each year (you’ve probably heard of older couples celebrating a silver or a gold anniversary) but some of them probably shouldn’t be taken super literally. Just because your current anniversary’s theme is wood does not mean your wife wants a hand-carved rocking chair.  Read more…

Hugh Jackman writes adorable anniversary message to his wife, Ryan Reynolds trolls it mercilessly

TwitterFacebook

Ryan Reynolds is back to doing what he does best: trolling Hugh Jackman.

This time, Reynolds is playing the role of the naysaying—the dude that mutters “it’ll never last” about a pal’s relationship.

Ryan Reynolds joked that he’d given the relationship Hugh Jackman and wife Deborra-lee Furness three months, tops.

In reality, of course, the couple are very much together 22 years later, and very much in love, as illustrated by Jackman’s very sweet anniversary message to Furness.

I believe in life we need to see and truly be seen by the most important people in our lives. Deb, from day one, we had that. 22 years later … it only gets deeper. You and the kids are the greatest gift I will ever receive. I love you a gazillion times around the worldpic.twitter.com/VsoDq4HxDw

Woman brings new meaning to ‘head over heels’ by falling over after marriage proposal

TwitterFacebook

One woman brought a whole new meaning to falling head over heels in love with someone. Only this time, it was a case of falling head over skates.

During a delightful festive proposal at the Rockefeller ice rink things appeared to be going pretty smoothly.

That is, until the newly-engaged woman kissed her new fiancé and proceeded to slip on the ice. In a video captured by an onlooking tourist, the woman fell on the slippery ice rink and landed on her derrière.

Don’t worry, she got up straight away and resumed enjoyment of a lovely romantic moment.

Congrats!  Read more…

Damn, don’t mess with Jane Austen Twitter

TwitterFacebook

Literary Twitter is all in a tizzy, and we couldn’t be more delighted, because the burns are piping hot, and the subject of the controversy is novelist extraordinaire Jane Austen.

On Friday, the Washington Post ran an essay about the fact that Jane Austen never married, despite the fact that marriage and courtship were her main subjects in books like Pride and Prejudice and Emma. But the ~scandal~ really got going after the Post tweeted out the piece on Sunday.

Jane Austen was the master of the marriage plot. But she remained singlehttps://t.co/BwBp51el8U
