Beauty YouTubers are making their pets pick out their makeup in a delightful new challenge

YouTube’s video recommendations are mostly a collection of the worst that the platform has to offer. It wasn’t until a video titled “My cats pick my makeup” popped up that I finally felt seen.

TwitterFacebook

It’s Viral Market Crash week on Mashable. Join us as we take stock of the viral economy and investigate how the internet morphed from a fun free-for-all to a bleak hellscape we just can’t quit.

Four and a half years ago, Chloe Kardoggian was looking for a new home. She wasn’t what many would consider to be the most adoptable dog — at nine year old, she had heart problems, bug eyes, and only two teeth to her name. But Dorie Herman saw past all that.

Herman says she adopted Chloe from “a friend of a friend of a friend” after seeing a Facebook post announcing Chloe was up for adoption. She started an Instagram account for her new pet as a way to show Chloe’s old owners how she was doing.  Read more…

Yes, your dog has a horoscope. So does your gerbil.

TwitterFacebook

Forget Shark Week, it’s Bark Week on Mashable. Join us as we celebrate all the good dogs, which we humans do not deserve.

Every human has a place in the astrological universe. So too does every dog, cat, gerbil, building, vacuum cleaner, Fitbit, and anal plug.

The concept can be a little hard to swallow, especially for those skeptical of astrology in the first place. Still, for those who are open to it or drunk enough to listen, it resonates.

“Anything that’s born into time has a horoscope, animate or inanimate,” Christopher Renstrom, author of Ruling Planets, tells Mashable. “That includes dogs.” His view is shared by others is the field — as well as my best friend, who insists her humping Labrador is a Leo. (He’s a Cancer, she just doesn’t want to accept it.) Read more…

No, it’s not just you — allergy season is worse this year and that’s exactly why you need an air purifier

TwitterFacebook

Allergies are more annoying than usual this year, right?

No really, it’s not your imagination — pollen season is getting worse every year, and air purifiers are making their way to the must-have list of home appliances.

A recent segment on ABC News detailed that climate change is a huge factor that’s contributing to the worsening pollen seasons. Among the culprits are high temperatures and raised levels of carbon dioxide, both of which can affect the proteins in the pollen grains that cause these allergies.

In the story, Dr. Jeffrey Demain, a board-certified allergist and immunologist, is quoted saying, “It’s been shown that in rising carbon dioxide, the allergenic peptide of each pollen grain goes up.” He also points out that carbon dioxide levels have been “shown to increase the amount of biomass and pollen production by a plant,” as quoted in the article.  Read more…
