Allow John Cena to explain that butt-chugging scene in ‘Blockers’

TwitterFacebook

In the movie Blockers, John Cena plays an over-protective father whose daughter is heading off to prom with a boy who has a top bun — so he does everything he can, including butt-chugging a 40, to stop her from making any potential “mistakes.”

Ahead of the release of Blockers on April 6, Mashable spoke with Cena to get his own thoughts on prom, nude scenes, and butt-chugging — yes, butt-chugging.

Cena plays Mitchell, the enthusiastic, competitive father of Kayla (Geraldine Viswanathan), who teams up with fellow parents Lisa (Leslie Mann) and Hunter (Ike Barinholtz) to stop their three high school senior daughters from going through with their pact to lose their virginities on prom night. But along the way, the parents (sort-of) learn to let go and trust their kids in a sex-positive way. Read more…

‘Lost in Space’ is enjoyable sci-fi that also highlights a uniquely Netflix problem

Every week, Lost in Space had a new story to tell.
I still remember watching old reruns of the 1960s series on WPIX 11 as a kid. The Robinson family’s struggles to keep life comfy and happy while stranded on a distant alien world were captivating to …

A new ‘Star Wars’ TV series is coming from Jon Favreau

TwitterFacebook

Jon Favreau is the next white guy headed to a galaxy far, far away.

Lucasfilm has just announced that Favreau will write and executive produce the as-yet-untitled live-action Star Wars series. Details are scarce, but you knew that already – details are always scarce with these Star Wars projects.

No premiere date has been announced, but we do know the show will debut on Disney’s direct-to-consumer platform – think of how Star Trek Discovery helped launch CBS All Access.

Favreau’s been a Disney favorite for a while. He helped kick off the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Iron Man and Iron Man 2, and his “live-action” remake of The Jungle Book was such a hit that he’s doing the same thing for The Lion King, due out in 2019.  Read more…

‘Jessica Jones’ Season 2 is a bit of an uphill climb

TwitterFacebook

Marvel’s Jessica Jones Season 1 is one hell of an act to follow. It opened on an abrasive alcoholic and her deeply ingrained trauma, on a double homicide of parents by their daughter, and Marvel’s most fearsome small screen villain, if not an all-time contender.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, then, that Jessica Jones Season 2 feels immensely slow by comparison.

Don’t get us wrong, Season 2 isn’t bad – at least, not in the first five episodes screened for critics – but it drags from the get-go and it’s hard to ignore. Jessica has all-but dissociated from everything with Kilgrave, and she’s essentially in denial of her newfound fame and duty since The Defenders (let alone all those supernatural shenanigans). She’s recognizable on the street and the phrase “superhero vigilante” is bandied about like this is Daredevil Season 1 establishing Hell’s Kitchen. Read more…

James Harden’s baseball cap tease is nothing new for ‘Call of Duty’

TwitterFacebook

Few things in life are certain. The sun will always rise in the morning and set in the evening. Dogs will always be better than cats. And a new Call of Duty will always, always come out every year.

It’s a little early for a formal reveal, but suspicions about what’s next for the series are running high thanks to James Harden. The Houston Rockets star was spotted wearing a baseball cap featuring a minimalistic logo that apes the style of previous logos in the Call of Duty: Black Ops series.
