‘Love Island’ feels different now and it’s because of #MeToo

TwitterFacebook

This has, categorically, been the summer of Love Island. Despite being an annual fixture since 2015, this year’s Love Island has utterly steamrolled popular culture: it has become mainstream popular culture.

2018 was the year that the broadsheets couldn’t ignore it: MacBook anthropologists mused about attachment theory and heteronormative personality tropes and generation-Insta – before finishing with something like, ‘or maybe we just like watching semi-naked hotties getting it on!’

Because the only thing we love more than watching Love Island is talking about why it is that we love watching Love Island. Read more…

People with disabilities share the moving ways their partners show love for them

TwitterFacebook

Actions speak louder than words — particularly when those actions show just how much you care about a person.

People with disabilities have been sharing their partners’ actions that show them just how much they’re loved — actions that are “different from the way abled people show love.”

Get the tissues at the ready, you’re in for some very moving Twitter #content.

The conversation was started by Imani Barbarin, a disabilities activist and creator of the #DisTheOscars hashtag, which calls attention to the lack of disability representation in the Academy Awards. Read more…

One curious tweeter posed this question to the internet, asking followers to share their stories of how they met their partners. And, boy, did the internet deliver.

People chimed in with their romantic tales — some heartwarming, and others downright hilarious.

Someone tell me their love story. How’d you meet the person you’re with ?

The 48th annual L.A. Pride Festival in West Hollywood, California hit a new milestone on Saturday, selling out for the first time in the event’s history. The event wasn’t without pains, though, as it was so crowded that some ticket-holders were among those who were turned away.

Turtle sex videos, ranked

TwitterFacebook

May 23 is World Turtle Day.

On this of all days, we celebrate turtles — and we especially celebrate turtles making more turtles, so we can, in turn, celebrate those new turtles.

Following that logic, we should celebrate turtle sex. Specifically, we should celebrate by ranking YouTube videos of turtles having sex. There are a surprisingly large number of them.

Now, let’s be clear, the purpose of this ranking is not to shame any of these turtles for having lesser sex. All turtle sex is good sex because, as outlined above, it is making more turtles.

7. The basic

Nothing wrong with being basic. Here you have two turtles simply enjoying each other’s company.  Read more…

7 crafty animals who manage to masturbate without hands

TwitterFacebook

This post is part of Mashable’s Masturbation Week. May is National Masturbation Month, so we’re celebrating by exploring the many facets of self-love.

As Dr. Ian Malcolm says in the original Jurassic Park, “Nature finds a way.”

Yes, nature does find a way to flourish, to spread, to evolve — and even to masturbate.

But what about all those animals that aren’t primates? How can species that lack hands perform this tender act of self-love? Think of the whales and the turtles.

Here are seven animals that bravely find pretty NSFW ways to get their rocks off — and we mean actual rocks — without the use of hands.  Read more…

The stigma against buying used sex toys has weakened. But is it really a good idea?

TwitterFacebook

This post is part of Mashable’s Masturbation Week. May is National Masturbation Month, so we’re celebrating by exploring the many facets of self-love.

I dream of the day our nation’s greatest minds come together and invent a compostable dildo.

Tragically, that day has not arrived.

Over the past few years, however, there’s been a growing interest in sustainable sex toys — including, but thankfully not limited to, used sex toys. Browse Craigslist, Reddit, or even some of your favorite sex-positive Facebook groups, and you’re guaranteed to find a discounted, freshly boiled anal plug for sale.

And while there’s nothing quite so magical as coming home to a warm pot of cock rings on the stove, it’s worth noting that no used sex toy is ever completely free of risk. Read more…
