‘The Office’ episode ‘Diwali’ is still a master class in representation

TwitterFacebook

You can’t get far into any discussion or analysis of TV these days without talking about diversity – a subject which networks and producers still struggle to wrap their minds around, let alone execute.

But answers and tools for improving representation on TV have been available. That’s why it’s embarrassing that this industry-wide weakness is only recently being addressed with any real effort.

In 2006, The Office aired “Diwali,” a remarkable episode that holds up and is still a pivotal benchmark in how to tell diverse stories in Hollywood.

‘The Office’ fans are going to love this brilliant Easter egg

TwitterFacebook

The Office has been off the air since 2013, but to this day fans are still uncovering hilarious easter eggs hidden in the show.

The latest discovery, recently shared to r/DunderMifflin, was found in “Garage Sale,” Episode 19 of Season 7 of the series.

In the episode, the office and warehouse crew gather together to host a public garage sale. But as Reddit user u/kiiirsten points out with a screenshot, one of the items Michael attempted to sell was a glorious nod to a fan-favorite episode: “Dinner Party.”

Michael’s garage sale table featured many treasures — from his neon beer girl sign and a Slip ‘N Slide, to a tambourine, a festive hat, and more. But as the still shot below shows, he also tried to sell HIS BROKEN PLASMA TV. Read more…

‘Superstore’ has the best TV workplace romance since ‘The Office’

TwitterFacebook

Hello and welcome to your regularly scheduled reminder to watch NBC’s Superstore, a delightful workplace comedy about a megastore in middle America and the lovable weirdos in it. Now in its fourth season, Superstore is as brilliant as ever, and it’s finally able to lean in to the charming romance it’s been building up for years.

It may seem blasphemous to declare Superstore’s prominence in such hallowed company, but TV romance has come a long way in the decade-plus since The Office. There was Ben and Leslie on Parks and Recreation and Jake and Amy on Brooklyn Nine-NineSuperstore feels like a natural followup because of how it makes you feelRead more…

Who knew ‘The Office’ would be so damn relevant in 2018?

TwitterFacebook

Fact: It’s been more than five years since the series finale of The Office aired. But references to the show, memes, and screenshots of the beloved comedy are still shared on the regular.

National Pretzel Day is celebrated annually on April 26 with Stanley Hudson GIFs galore. When big news drops, the show’s iconic fire drill reaction scene isn’t far behind. And every baffling moment in today’s news cycle gives people the urge to look for a nearby camera and pull a Jim Halpert.

Over the past three years especially — as former cast members like John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and Steve Carell have taken on new roles, and American politics has grown increasingly chaotic — The Office‘s presence online and in pop culture has only grown. Read more…

There’s now an ‘Office’ parody musical — and it’s really charming

TwitterFacebook

Dunder Mifflin Scranton is back in business, baby.

Thanks to the ambitious and exceedingly nostalgic minds who brought the world parody musicals based on Friends, Full House, and Saved By The Bell, everyone’s favorite paper company employees get to live — and sing — on in The Office! A Musical Parody.

The delightful homage to some of the best moments in The Office kicks off by taking you back to the beginning — the day when, for some mysterious reason, a documentary crew starts filming the fairly average lives of Dunder Mifflin employees.

From there, the World’s Best Boss, Michael Scott (Sarah Mackenzie Baron), and his work family go on to experience the Dundies, the party planning committee’s most enthusiastic soiree yet, the murder of a beloved cat, a branch closing, a chili debacle, a brief and trippy encounter with rabies, an unfortunate series of new management, three marriage proposals, and so much more. (Seriously, they cover a lot of ground in a very short amount of time.) Read more…

Let Jenna Fischer make your day with a precious throwback pic from ‘The Office’

As The Office’s Andy Bernard once said, “I wish there was a way to know you’re in the good old days before you’ve actually left them.”
WELL, Andy… we might not be able to tell when we’re in “the good old days,” but thankfully we have photographs th…

Angela from ‘The Office’ called out her nephew for his Tinder photo

TwitterFacebook

Angela is so over this.

James, 25, is a salesman at Toyota. He is a “life long musician” and can “get along with just about anyone.” He’s a former firefighter, but you can still call him a fireman because he’s still got the ability to “turn the hoes on.”

Oh, and Angela from The Office is his aunt.

James’ Tinder profile features a brightly lit selfie with the one and only Angela Kinsey, who played the perpetually unamused Angela Martin. James had been using it to get those sweet right swipes — and then Kinsey called out her nephew in an Instagram story: “Nephews … Do not put me in your @tinder profile photos. K. Thx. Byeeeee.”  Read more…

The 65 absolute best moments from ‘The Office’

TwitterFacebook

Fact: The Office is now and will always be one of the greatest television shows of all time.

The NBC comedy, which debuted in 2005, followed the extraordinarily amusing lives of Michael Scott, Jim Halpert, Pam Beesley, and other employees at Dunder Mifflin Scranton. And even though The Office has been off the air since 2013, fans have yet to stop obsessing over the nine glorious seasons.

While everyone impatiently awaits a possible revival, which John Krasinski already has planned, we figured it’d be wise to take a look back and cherish some of The Office’s best moments.

Mourning the end of your sitcom binge-watch? Devour the bloopers.

TwitterFacebook

This is Ode To, a weekly column where we share the stuff we’re really into in hopes that you’ll be really into it, too.

Growing up in the golden age of DVDs was both a blessing and a curse.

On one hand, I wasted some serious cash building up a collection of movies and television box sets that are currently on their way to being obsolete. But whenever I watched a DVD, I always had the luxury of knowing my viewing experience would extend far beyond the movie or TV show itself. I’m talking about those beautiful bonus features — the extra nuggets of entertainment today’s world is seriously lacking. Read more…
