Philadelphia greased poles to stop Eagles fans from climbing them. It didn’t work.

TwitterFacebook

The last time the Philadelphia Eagles were in the Super Bowl, we only just started using MySpace and the iPod was still some newfangled thing.

So it’s no wonder the city was extra careful in the lead up to the Eagles NFC Championship game against the Minnesota Vikings, because a win — taking the team to the Super Bowl — would have the place in raptures.

Last week, businesses were also warned to put everything they owned inside and keep security cameras on. Then there were the crews dubbed “Crisco Cops” who greased poles to stop people from climbing on top of them.  Read more…

John Malkovich is here to hype the Jaguars-Patriots AFC showdown

TwitterFacebook

The best football ads are the weird football ads.

So it was with Electronic Arts’ Madden Season debut back in 2014, and so it is now with CBS Sports’ “teaser” video for Sunday’s AFC Championship match-up between the Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots.

No explanation needed, really. Know only that this weirdness is fueled mostly by John Malkovich, the best “weird dude” actor in Hollywood. Just look at this epic nonsense.

Katie Nolan is what ESPN needs in the digital age

TwitterFacebook

Katie Nolan works for ESPN, but her Saturday work shift wasn’t a typical made-for-TV broadcast. For one, she was seated in an armchair, legs curled up underneath her, and was dressed in a flannel and jeans.

“Don’t quote me on this, but look it up. You’re at a computer,” Nolan said to no one in particular as she discussed football, Atlanta remixes, and blocking people on Twitter with her colleague Clinton Yates for ESPN’s NFL Wildcard Live, airing exclusively on Twitter.

Nolan isn’t a typical sports analyst who shares breaking news and meticulously scrutinizes replays. She’s a Boston native who loves the New England Patriots and will send tweets like this on a Saturday night:  Read more…

Protestors project message for Trump at college football championship

TwitterFacebook

While much of the conversation on Monday night was about the overtime thriller that saw Alabama claim yet another national college football title (ugh), there were still murmurs of protests directed at Donald Trump.

While tens of thousands of fans filed into Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta for the title game, several groups of protesters, including a local chapter of the NAACP, gathered to protest Trump’s drop-by .

One particular group — Newsweek reported it was “ResistNow” based off tweets from a user of the same name — let their feelings be known by the hottest protest method around: giant projections on the side of a building.  Read more…
