Please stop applauding Louis C.K. for doing the bare minimum

TwitterFacebook

Well, it looks like the Louis C.K. apologists have at least pivoted to a different tactic than simply labeling accusers liars, after the comedian finally admitted to the sexual misconduct he’s been disparaging as mere “rumor” for five years (and as recently as two months ago).

Within mere hours of C.K. issuing his statement, the internet fell over itself to commend him for the brave act of finally admitting he is, in fact, a sexual harasser and feels bad about it — now that there’s a New York Times story about it, anyway.

And as C.K. fans (and even some of his critics) pat him on the back for doing the literal least he could by not lying anymore, some conservatives continue to make excuses for Roy Moore, the former Alabama judge and U.S. Senate candidate accused of initiating a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl when he was 32. TwitterFacebook

Ellen Page is the latest actress to add her voice to the chorus of sexual harassment allegations against Brett Ratner, who directed Page in X-Men: The Last Stand when she was 18.

Page detailed her experience with Ratner — including alleged homophobic and sexist comments on set — in a powerful Facebook post Friday.

Ratner has denied all allegations.

Page’s X-Men co-star, Anna Paquin, corroborated Page’s account on Twitter.

I was there when that comment was made. I stand with you .@EllenPage https://t.co/DEIvKDXeEL

In the Facebook post, Page also detailed her feelings of powerlessness after Ratner allegedly tried to pressure her into a wearing a “Team Ratner” shirt on set, writing that after publicly refusing him, she was later reprimanded by the film’s producers for talking back to the director — “yet he was not being punished nor fired for the blatantly homophobic and abusive behavior we all witnessed. I was an actor that no one knew. I was eighteen and had no tools to know how to handle the situation.” Read more…

Portia de Rossi tweeted that the actor unzipped his pants during an audition for one of his movies. She ran out and called her agent who replied: “Well, I didn’t know if he was your type.”

My final audition for a Steven Segal movie took place in his office. He told me how important it was to have chemistry off-screen as he sat me down and unzipped his leather pants. I️ ran out and called my agent. Unfazed, she replied, “well, I didn’t know if he was your type.”
